We stayed in the "Suite "Mönchgut" mit Meerblick" that was enough room for a family of five. The Suite had a balcony facing the sea and was really nice. I found the workers to be helpful and luckily on the days we could not go outside due to bad weather there was a swimming pool for us to enjoy. You can either park underground at the hotel or at a parking lot about a block away. I have to say the breakfast buffet was fabulous, as an American I enjoyed the pancakes, bacon and eggs that were made freshly for you :)
Now here comes some of my complaints...I found the water in the swimming pool to be cold, after one hour my kids lips were turning blue. Mind you the weather was cool outside so we really wanted to enjoy some warm water. Secondly, as an American I was a little shocked that in the SPA area everyone was naked...I mean no one was shy so if you don´t want your children to see naked woman and men walking around then at least I have forwarned you. My last complaint is I wish Dorint would of had some screens on their windows and balcony door, who wants to be eaten up by mosquitos at night? My dream of listening to the oceans waves at night were replaced by rude mosquitos!

My 10 year old son and I arrived at Binz Railway Station in the rain - after a couple of wet days in Lubeck and a train journey involving three changes of train his spirits were down. However 5 minutes walk straight down from the station towards the sea, his spirits lifted when he saw our hotel for the next 4 nights.

Once we were into our room he was happier still. Although we had booked a room without a sea view, it was large with a separate sitting room area and much to my son's delight had two TVs. The room was very comfortable with a good shower room well stocked with toiletries. There were also towelling bathrobes and slippers - very useful for the spa area.

We had booked bed and breakfast - there was a very good choice at the breakfast buffet with both hot and cold food - fried eggs and omelettes individually cooked for you. We had evening meal on three nights - 25 Euro for two courses and a separate much cheaper children's menu. Food quality was high.

The spa area was a real plus factor - even though we were told off wearing swimsuits in the mixed sex steam and sauna areas - in Germany, people go naked, which can be hard if it is not part of your culture to do so. Nevertheless I did comply. The spa area also incorporated a reasonable size indoor swimming pool. I took advantage of the aquarobics class before breakfast and on each occasion, we did different exercises.

Although I do not speak German and all the other guests appeared to be German, this was not a problem. The reception staff were friendly and professional and spoke fluent English as did many of the other staff, (and guests).

The hotel's location is excellent for guests arriving without a car. It is a short walk from the railway station and bus stops. A tourist train which runs around Binz stops outside the next hotel - there is no charge as it is included in the 2 Euros 10 cents a day compulsory tourist tax which is added to the hotel bill. The hotel fronts onto the seafront promenade. The beach is long, clean and sandy.

Rugen is a very interesting island with plenty to do and good public transport. The hotel is an excellent base.
