“Superb!”

KdF - Koloss von Ruegen
Reviewed July 27, 2014

Visited Rugen with family and, as I am interested in everything WW2, this was a must! Part of the buildings have, or are about to be, converted into modern flats, cafes etc, which is sort of good, but then again will ensure there is less interest for us studying the WW2 period. Anyway, it was fascinating and the museum set up in one section is very interesting. They even have a Viennese café....nothing really Viennese about it, it was self service, and that service was very much old East Germany. Two of us had the Germknoedel which were good, but the other lady in our party had a crumble cake which appeared very old.

I can agree to all the positive remarks which are published so far. Another point to mention is this is the best acess you can get to the beach on the island of Ruegen. All the other main beaches like Binz etc. are too crowded. From the beach it is not possible to see the brutal concrete structure because it is hidden by trees.

Fascinating film show with English sub-titles. The exhibition is all in German but that did not detract from the overall fascination of the place

Prora is such a contrast to the beautiful surrounding beach resorts. It's been 70 years, and at Prora you can to some degree still experience what it was like to live in Nazi Germany. This is not a stale museum, this is more or less untouched history. Like they just left it there and never turned back. Don't miss it.

Feel we have just visited this piece of history at a time of change. The whole complex feels like the developers are in changing it to luxury apartments. The complex is huge and you get very little feel it is there from the beach or road. Very enjoyable two hours watching history being rebuilt to something future holiday makers will enjoy. The museum is superb with history, geology, technology and in the actual buildings.
