My husband and I stayed at Hotel Emilia from October 15 to October 23, 2011, and we would certainly stay there again. The total cost was about 880 euros.

The location is fantastic and an excellent "homebase" from which to explore Finland. It is a short walk from the hotel to either the bus station or train station, and you are right in the heart of the shopping district as the hotel is located on a pedestrian area shopping and restaurant "arcade".

Hotel Emilia is associated with the two best restaurants in town, the awesome value for your euro, Tawastia Bank, and the elegant and charming Pipparkakku Talo or "Gingerbread House".

The rooms are very clean and are decorated, as is the hotel, in Marimekko fabrics.

A fun feature is what my husband and I called the hotel's "Disco Breakfast". This should catch on as all the rage in Hame! Breakfast, included in your room fee, is held each morning in the Emilia Club in the Hotel basement. It is very nice, but for some reason the Club's disco ball is continuously turning throughout breakfast. The breakfast buffet is good, fresh, very Finnish with salted salmon and cucumbers, wheat porridge with berries and, the best of all, Karjalan Pirakka.

The desk staff speak good English and are very helpful.

I highly recommend Hotel Emilia.

I have been generally really disappointed with hotels in Finland, but I found this room to be the cleanest and freshest I have stayed in outside of Helsinki. The floors were clean, the sheets were starched, and the decor was cute.
The downside was that the rooms were SO tiny, and there were some sketchy men hanging around. They seemed almost to be longterm guests?

I stayed for one night on the fifth floor.

Pros: Very peaceful during the night, I guess there were not a lot of guests staying at that time. Very clean, simple and nicely decorated rooms. Very good location at the center of the town.

Cons: You can hear the toilet noises from other rooms (if there are other guests).
