“A gold mine of a deal. Now called Chalet Hotel Montfort”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Spent a week here with Inghams travel. In a word this was, great! Young chalet staff who could not do enough for you. The package was unbelievable value. Breakfast/dinner/ packed lunch/afternoon tea and cake / tea and coffee all day/ before dinner aperitif and canapes /free Lech card which is a pass for the lifts and the buses, swimming pool, tennis courts and uncle Tom Cobbly and all. 15 rooms in all, so very homely and the chefs are not cooking for the 5000. The food was home cooked by three young chefs. Wine included with dinner. Large comfortable rooms, Sauna /hot tub / bootroom in the basement etc, and all for a price of two nights with this package, in the UK. Spendido.

Room Tip: 2/3/4/8/9/10 all have balconies 1/7 have sunrooms

Firstly the Hotel Montfort is now being leased by Inghams on a two seasons basis. High season which is winter until May then there is a few weeks break with the Summer season commencing on or around the 21st June. It is now called Chalet Hotel Montfort.

We have been with Inghams many times and cannot fault them for organisation, transfers etc. First impression of the Hotel was its in an excellent position with Lech centre no more than a five minute walk away. On the flip side it is the last hotel up a narrow bit of road so is quiet and private.

Rooms. Very Spacious with loads of drawer and hanger space, most we have ever come across. We asked for the twin beds to be put together to form a double which is exactly as it was laid out on arrival. Spotlessly clean. Bathroom was modern with a large bath and excellent shower facility. TV was a little dated being the old big back type but we very rarely had this on as you don't go on holiday to watch TV.

Facilities. We were shown round and downstairs all the facilities were included in the price being a Steam Room, Hot Tub and whirlpool, Boot Room. Free WiFi was available 24/07 in the lounge and bar areas only, signal did'nt reach the bedrooms. The bar was open from 4pm until late.

Food. Now this was the problem. Bearing in mind we were there in summer and I would say 90% of the guests were walkers burning up a lot of energy. Breakfast was buffet style with white rolls only, jams, cereal and a small selection of fruit. A changed every day hot breakfast was available but very small quantities, This is the first time we have been to Austria and not had the choice of different types of bread (brown, wholemeal etc). Lunch packs were available and were Free. No problems with this as they compared to what we received on previous holidays i.e sandwich, fruit juice, fruit bar, biscuits and a piece of fruit. Evening meal was one sitting at 7.30pm howver before this at 7pm every night canapes and pre drinks were served. This was a great idea as you can have a small bite of something and chin wag with the other guests about the days events at the same time. Unfortunately the food at the start of the holiday was poor, not so much in quality but the servings were minuscule and did not fulfill ones appetite. Soups were the starter with the main course being the biggest let down as you received a small piece of meat or fish with maybe a piece of potato and no veg. Every hotel we have stayed at in Austria before now also had a salad bar buffet style which you could have as a separate course or add to the main meal. I do not understand the lack of this at the Montfort as putting together a salad course cannot be a cost issue as a large lettuce at the Spar is less than a Euro. The sweet course was ok apart from the Apple strudel we had one day which again was far too small. It says it all when the cheese and biscuits arrived there was a mad scramble to get there first. The drinks which were available 24/07 might I add were always hot with an excellent variety of coffees and teas. Throughout the evening meal free flowing wine was served which was another great idea and as you can imagine went down a storm. Whether comments were made is another matter but as the week went on the food did improve but as I say a Salad bar in an evening and a better choice of rolls in the morning would make all the difference.

Staff and Service. Excellent considering the average age of the the all British staff was probably early twenties. They couldn't do enough for you and also gave advice on the area. Maybe a lack of experience or naivety was the reason for the at times disappointing food.

Room Tip: All balcony and terrace rooms catch the late afternoon and evening sun.

Having just returned from the best ski trip ever ...we have skied for over 20 years, I have to say a massive thank-you to all the staff for making our holiday fabulous.
We arrived around midday to be met by Tim ...the hotel manager. Whilst our rooms were being prepared we were served hot drinks and nibbles whilst Tim chatted through all the local amenities. The bedrooms are far more spacious than most ski chalet hotels and very well presented...we had rooms 3 & 4, both had full bathrooms and a great sun terrace.
The food was exceptional...thanks to Bruno the Chef. Breakfast offerred a great variety, afternoon tea was to die for...great cakes ,and our evening meals were splendid. Although we skied every day...we all gained a few pounds!
All members of staff excelled...it would be unfair to comment on just one however,Jenny, Johnny , Brook and Bruno entertained us all week with their quizes, race evening and fun banter. They will be a hard act to follow.
Tim must be commended for running such a happy crew. One of our party celebrated a birthday whilst we were there...nothing was too much trouble; we had balloons, a birthday cake and great champagne..even though it was the staffs 'day off'.
Lech is a very pretty town....a little more expensive than most ski resorts. The bars are very lively ...however, the Ice bar with champagne at 25euros per glass is excessive. The bar at the Monfort is very fairly priced and allows the guest to mingle and swop their ski stories of the day.
The ski and boot room was always warm...warm air blows through the ski boots overnight...utter luxury. We left our ski's at a locker in town each night ....my only negative being the uphill walk back to the Montfort at the end of the day .
Overall, would we go again....most certainly.
Thanks one and all for a great time.

This was out first skiing holiday ever, so we had no idea what to expect, but we have just had one of our best holidays ever staying at the Chalet Montfort.
We stayed in room 14, which is on the top floor, very spacious yet cosy, comfortable room, with stunning views towards Oberlech. The room, and the whole hotel, was extremely clean, the decor is typically Austrian and along with the furnishings, ornaments and knick knacks made it an extremely appealing place to stay.
The food was outstanding. The breakfast buffet (meats, cheese, breads, various fruits, yoghurts, cereals, variety of juices) is all laid out ready for you in the morning, if anything runs out you only have to ask and it is replenished straightaway. There is a also a choice of hot options that is cooked to order in super quick time too.
At 4pm there are a variety of homemade cakes, biscuits, savoury items and soup laid out, every day was a different selection, one day had one of the best carrot cakes I have ever tasted!
Dinner starts around 7.30pm, but before that the staff will come around the bar area with "nibbles" which were extremely tasty, to go along with the nightly free cocktail they prepare.
You choose your menu from a choice of 2 meat & 1 vegetarian options the night before, we always liked all the options so we were never stuck for a choice! Dinner is 3 courses, followed by a cheeseboard in the bar, tea & coffee and homemade truffles. There is a choice of wine and it's available throughout dinner and afterwards in the bar. The food was amazing, with extremely generous portions. Be prepared to put on weight if you eat it all!! Bruno, the new chef, started the same day we arrived so he did a fantastic job for his first week cooking there.
As total beginners this hotel was ideal as it is situated right next to the nursery slopes, but it is only a 5 minute walk down to Lech village for the chairlifts and gondolas to the slopes. There is a large boot room in the cellar accessed from outside to store all your equipment with hot air dryers for your boots. We both had lessons for 4 days, my husband was skiing on blue runs by the beginning of day 3, but he is fearless, whereas I did my first blue run, with a lot of falling over, on the afternoon of day 4! Even though it scared the life out of me I had such a great holiday I would do it all again, needless to say my husband is hooked! As beginners we don't have anything to compare Lech to but all the "real" skiiers seemed to be impressed with the selection of runs in and around the Arlberg area. Zurs seemed to be very popular. Even though it is so obviously an expensive ski resort, we didn't feel uncomfortable at any time and found everyone to be very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
We used the hotels sauna, steam room and jacuzzi most days to soothe our aching muscles, it is very spacious and extremely clean and the showers are amazing, we did see some other guests at times but mostly on our own in there.
And last, but most definitely not least, the staff. From Tim meeting us on arrival until he waved us off on the coach, he and all his staff were so friendly and amazing. You could ask them anything and if they didn't know the answer they would go off and come back almost immediately with a response, very efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them, extremely polite and attentive. Also we were able to have a good laugh with them too!
We cannot fault Chalet Montfort, the Ski Total rep Louise, Lech or the full week of brilliant sunshine for our first skiing holiday, the next ski holiday will have a lot to live up to!

Room Tip: Room 14 is on the top floor, newly refurbished, spacious, with excellent views. Brother stayed in r...

Ski Total company run Chalet Hotel Montfort - Youngish couple in 30's first time to Lech and neither of us own a Fur coat.
The Good - Spacious rooms, hot showers, good room storage for cases and board bag in room.
Really nice starters, mains and desserts and lovely wine all week. Serving Staff, bar manager and chalet manager very helpful and friendly. Decor in bar and dining room traditional. Location directly opposite learner slopes, 3 min walk to main slopes, central location to main slopes, bars, shop and restaurants for the chalet night off. heated boot warmers and plenty of seats to get your boots on. Sauna, steam room and relax area very good. Like a mini health spa.

The not so good (nothing really bad)- Hot breakfast was quite small but buffet breakfast was ok. Cheese board is limited pre defined portion. Im sure you could ask for more but Id rather not have to ask.
The boot room does not have individual lockers and room is unlocked during day and early evening. Not as secure as other hotels/chalets we've been to.
Jacuzzi not working all week.
The hotel runs a bar service with tab system. The bar staff were excellent and the tab system very convienient but its a pity there wasnt an honesty bar or you were allowed to bring own drinks downstairs. Chalets are normally a home from home so paying 3+ euros per drink is not the best. If you buy drinks in the local shop youll need to drink them in your room.

For future chalets Ill be asking about the bar.

Room Tip: Balcony room not required, only useful for chilling your beers in the winter

First season for the Ski Total Chalet Hotel. We booked this only 2 weeks before and were highly impressed by the service and standards we received. Had a nightmare journey with change of airports and bad transfer but when we pulled up outside and Tim and Johnny were both outside to greet us, take our bags and generally make us feel so welcome the earlier hassles were all forgotten. We had room 5 the last room lest which was a small double with shower and after speaking to the others probably was the smallest and not refurbished room but it was lovely. Always clean and well serviced with plenty of space and cupboards and storage in general.

The chalet hotel is of a very good standard and nothing was too much trouble from hotel manager Tim and his team. I have stayed at 5* and travelled all over the world and the service was fantastic, attentive, caring and first class. The aperitif every night before dinner was always a refreshing start to the evenings plus the scrummy h'orderves. The choice of menu was a surprise and also very appetising. recommend the cheese board at the end of the night too. The choice of wine I was dreading as thought would be a awful house option but was really surprised at the wide choice and was very good standard too. Service again first class very rarely did the wine glass get completely empty but was trying to keep Johnny busy and on his toes!!!

Afternoon tea was more like a buffet, soup, quiche and wonderful cakes was just what was needed at 4-5 too. The boot room was great and well kept too, big enough and warm with heated blowers for the boots too.

We didnt get chance to use the spa think the fab bars at the bottom of the slopes just across the river kept us out after skiing for some much needed apres ski, location was perfect and only a short walk to the main street and straight onto the lifts too. For those days when a bit icy you can walk across to the nearby hotel and get the lift down right onto the main road....

Thanks to Tim and team for a fab first experience at a Chalet Hotel and I think I have now been spoilt and you have set a high standard for any other resort to live up to, but think as we were so impressed by the hotel and Lech as a resort that we will most probably be back again, well after done Canada next month be back one day soon. Ps good luck Tim with the boarding and Johnny with the Navy, look us up when your in Dartmouth for training.

Thanks again and hope you have a great first season.
