The Hinterweis is a smaller family hotel trying its best to aim a fair bit higher than it is capable of achieving, this is because of its size, it simply cannot be a 5 Star Hotel. At the beginning of the ski season many of the Hotel staff were still 'finding their feet' serving guests and there were quite a few 'Fawlty (Towers) moments when the service was somewhat laughable. The Hotel is clean and functional, the dining experience is solid but should not be so ambitious - amongst many examples, the effort at cooking lobster tails was embarrassing but the beef they cooked was tremendous. The wine list and to a lesser degree the bar prices are horribly overpriced - which I told Basil when we left. The Hotel will put a smile on your face this ski season if you want to stay in Lech (but drink your alcohol elsewhere)

We found the Hinterwies as a last resort in a very tight, Easter crowded Lech. The 5 days' vacation turned out to be joyful and cost-effective, with great service and very pleasant hosts, very tasty diners and exceptionally close-to the slopes location. The ski room is 50 meters walk from the T bar. We'll come back!

Hotel Hinterwies is magnificent. Rooms, decor, food, cleanliness, service and friendliness cannot be faulted.

Location is about 40 yards from a T bar lift that takes you to the main slopes and it is ski back literally to the ski room door.

The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the main town which means easy access but away from the lively bars and nightclubs so very quiet.

The hotel will pick up ski equipment for you from the ski hire shops. We arrived 2pm Sunday, strolled into town and booked our kit and it was ready for us in the ski room at 8am the next day - perfect service.

Slight negatives are the small, but immaculate spa area, which, I suspect because of its size, was not well used. Other Austrian ski hotels we have stayed in have much bigger spas with greater range of facilities. Also the wine with dinner is horrendously expensive - totally unjustified mark up. Expect to pay between 45 to 60 Euros for good but not spectacular wine or between 8 to 10 Euros a glass. This does detract slightly from the stunning food.

The hotel is slightly more formal than the average ski hotel. Most people dressed for dinner - this is not a sweatshirt and trackie bottoms kind of place!! But dinner in the sumptuous dining room and drinks in the beautiful bar area are worth smartening up for.

Came here with family including 2 young teenagers and had a stunning apartment. Skiing in the Lech area is excellent so the family unanimously agreed that we will definitely be coming back to the Hinterwies

Have stayed in this hotel for 10 years on the trot every winter. It is a very good hotel and would recommend it to anybody, primarily for proximity to the lift (super close!) and touching on michelin star dining. The hotel decor has recently been refurbished and gives a lovely warm feel. All rooms are good and don't be scared to go for the cheapest one, it's far from bad. The management has been slightly cut back on however, now with the managers employing slightly less experienced staff, but this isn't too much of a problem. The kitchen is still top quality, the waiters are friendly and the people behind the desk are still of satisfactory assistance for sure. It doesn't have a pool which is a slight drawback, but an extensive spa facility in the basement with sauna, jacuzzi etc. I would especially recommend it for people with children as it has several facilities in the basement for kids like a games room and table tennis table etc, and the kitchen can do some less extravagant meals for them too. All in all - a consistently pleasant and good hotel.

Room Tip: Any is fine, even the ones in the basement are good. Depends how much you want to spend. First floor...

We stayed at the hotel in early March for 1 week. We had a double room nd my sister and her family (4 total) stayed in an apt/suite. The hotel is perfect. You are a 2 min walk to a t bar that takes you up the mountain. Great ski room to hold equipment. On arrival they will take you to the rental place in town and then equipment gets delivered to hotel. The town in a 10 minute walk (little less on the way down). We ate dinner at the hotel 4 nights and out the other. The food at the hotel is very good and the menu changes daily. The staff was great and especially nice o the kids (10nd13). The spa is small but nice. Typical European spa....steam/sauna /sun room etc (over 16 only). The skiing in the area is perfect. There is a trail you can take daily called the white ring....takes you to each of the tons connected by slopes. Lunch at Rudalpe (right above hotel), Burg hotel (oberlech) on terrace, Kreigeralpe (on mountain) - make reservations for lunch! Food is AMAZING at all lunch spots. Plan on having big meal at lunch. Have fondue onE night at Hotel Arlberg Lech (recommend meat broth fondue) - reservation prior a must. Almhof Shneider beautiful bar and if looking for a bit more luxury.... You may want to check out.

Loved skiing in this area. 2hours from Zurich. We had a car pick us up ....cheaper to take train and also easy.

One thing, we had a double room at top of stairs and it was a bit loud.

Room Tip: Apt/suites for 4 are newly decorated and very nice (one bedroom and 2 baths) 2 single murphy beds in...

stayed for half term february 2012. excellent, imaginative and tasty food and very happy to help with special requirements. staff are friendly, professional and charming. good spa downstairs. rooms are clean, bathrooms modern. didn't love the mattress or the fact that the double bed was 2 singles pushed together. free wi-fi wasn't perfect in the rooms but downstairs in the bar (stylish) was fine. the only thing that was annoying was the prices on the wine list. cheapest wine was high 40ies in euros. even london you can get house win in the high teens or low 20ies. ok, captive audience in a hotel etc, you expect a mark up but i thought that was excessive. for reference, it is definitely a ski-in ski-out location which is great. would we go back. yes, no question - the food and staff make it a no-brainer.

Hinterwies, a 4 star Superior hotel is located nearby the piste just before the centre facing South of the Arlberg. We stayed 4 days at this hotel and were surprised by the relaxed atmosphere and the great cuisine. We arrived early on friday morning and left our luggage at the hotel. We got a parking spot and the staff showed us a change room and arranged 2 ski pass so we were able to ski within 15 minutes. Awesome! The piste is very close behind the hotel. After a sunny day we got back at 18.30 after enjoying champagne at Frozen Ice bar and apres at Krone and Pfefferkorn. The wellness is a bit to small for this 4*S hotel but nevertheless fine after a long ski day. The Deluxe double room was spacious and a combination of classic and modern. Dinner was fantastic. The different choice of dishes and exquisite wines completed our stay.(we stayed earlier several times at Hotel Plattenhof and Pfefferkorn). Hinterwies is an excellent hotel at a great ski location.
