Review of Ski Arlberg

Ski Arlberg
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Ok, lets start by saying LECH AM ARLBERG is quite a nice looking place...but that where the niceness ends. The resort although in Austria is 99% German..and im afraid they do not like us..the English that is...we were warned ourselves about this but did not listen only to find out the hard way...they smile at us but behind the smile is a "thanks for your cash" look in their eye. We were told in the resort by 8 waitress's who were on their luch break in a restaraunt and by several other people who wrok in the resort...without feeling embarassed abot it either !!!!
The resort is full of alcohol fuelled Germans who will push you and your children out of the way to get a seat or a place in a restaraunt...on one occasion we were told that we could not sit at an empty table as the family on the one next to it were not keen on us English...at frst we thought he was joking but HE looked confused at US not understanding this. The resort is very expensive£4 for tin of coke in the mountains etc and I could send you to MUCH better resorts with MUCH better hotels in Austria with MUCH cheaper prices...in fact about 50% cheaper. The skiing here is good and that is why I have given it 3 stars. We paid 480euros anight for a hotel which was nice looking in the wellness area and nice looking in the dining room...although the food was not bad at best. The room was only slightly above the cheap French motorway motels as it was small and tired and once the campbed was placed out there was just enough room to swing a cat. I am talikng about the hotel ACERINA ...however I must add that the owners are VERY NICE PEOPLE who do their best to make your stay nice....however I must again point out that there are better hotels in better resorts for half the price.Just because you have money doesnt meen to say you dont mind being ripped off !!!!! To sum this resort up..if you want to be shoved around by arrogant Germans...ripped off with a smile...have your kids knocked over on the piste by motorway mad Germans who then tell your kids"you shouldnt have been in my way" then this is the resort for you......!!!! There are better places to go..... The other better places in Austria ??? sorry...cant tell you...I dont want them turing into LECH AM ARLBERG
TIP...if you are mad enough to go here get a ski-in ski-out accomadation and take your own skiis...its cheaper than renting and locker storage...about £150 a week..YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Lech is top notch, almost every lift has heated seats, the slopes are mostly wide and always well prepared, it is not overcrowded, the village gives you a top quality winterholiday at a reasonable cost. It is not as cheap as many Italian resorts but not as expensive as St Moritz, Verbier och Courcheval. The White Ring or Weisses Ring in the local lingo is a decent challenge for most intermediare and good skiers. If you want the easy road follow the blue slopes, if you want the harder one, follow the red slopes. Make sure you go on a day with good visibility. There are a lot of slopes and a funpark for snowboarders. The restaurants have good mountain food and not too expensive. A funny thing is that there are more Bogner-jackets than other brands on the skiers. So if you wear Bogner you will not be alone.

Whilst St Anton has more going on around town, Lech has by far the better skiing experience. Shame it can't be reached via ski lifts from St anton, but the 1.2 hour bus ride over to Lech from St anton is worth the journey in terms of skiing. Also better suited to beginners/intermediates.

Large area to ski. Many different type of terrain to ski on. Scenery is breath taking on a sunny day. Wide choice of lifts, towns and places to eat. Can ski from village to village. Enough options to ski a week without retracing your steps.
