I travelled to the Hotel Arlberg in January 2010 and although I would not usually feel compelled to review a hotel, in this case I make an exception. On entering the Hotel Arlberg you instantly feel as though you have entered a magical world where the troubles of everyday life are left at the door. You are greeted by staff that have a smiling face, a rareity I find these days, and an attitude whereby nothing is any trouble. The staff are attentive, friendly with exceptional attentional to detail but in such a way that it seems effortless rather than forced.

Our room was spacious and immaculate, yet homely, welcoming and extremely comfortable. Although reluctant to leave the sanctuary of the room we ventured both nights into the hotel restaurant where true to Arlberg form, the food and service were wonderful.

A special mention must go to the Arlberg spa - a design haven! From the warm and traditional main areas of the hotel you transfer into a cutting edge relaxion bubble. The spa is a fusion of all things tranquil and has a room for just about any purpose you could ask for in a spa. Def worth a visit downstairs to see.

The only sadness of this hotel is having to leave - if you can get a reservation (as usually it is booked up months in advance) - it truely is the only place from which to base your ski holiday!

Highest Recommendation from a very difficult and seasoned traveller.

2010 will be our 11th visit to the Hotel Arlberg where everyone is made to feel like royalty. From the first year we came with a large group and lots of chaotic small children they sorted us out- organised us and made the whole holiday a treat without effort. The Schneider family treat their guests like extended family and ensure every last detail in the hotel is meticulously overseen. Despite the swift rise of the euro and the demise of the dollar, the Arlberg beats the hospitality on our side of the Atlantic; the food, the ambiance, their spa, the shop with the Austrian merchandise all combines for an unforgettable experience each year. And that is before enjoying the superb off piste skiing....

First I would like to say that I have been coming to the Lech/Zürs region for 10 years now, having stayed only in Zürs. ... (even though I loved Lech ... Zürs is better skiing)

This winter was the first time I decided to stay in Lech. And I must say ... I missed out in the passed 10 years.

But first things first. The hotel is brilliant ... you can tell that this is not just a 5 star hotel built in an exclusive village with high prices ... its more than that ... its really thought through, every detail in the amazing spa, restaurant, rooms etc. ... the hotel is small and intimate yet you dont feel cramped. You see at least one member of the owners family at all times ... and they are engaging and accessable ... it really makes it special for the guest ... also you can tell that this hotel is not stuck in the traditional austrian 5 star hotel idea ... they think outside the box ... i. e. the spa ... very upper east side ... brilliantly made!!

all in all it was one of the best 4 vacation days I had in a long time ... from one reservation to another ... lunch, apres ski, dinner, massages, party ... just WOW

fantastic hotel, great location, fabulous people ...... see you next year ;))

My wife and I went last December for a 4 day weekend. After reading reviews (trip advisor and others) we had very high expectations.

Lets start with the good - great location, very classy and understanted hotel, really super family atmoshpehere (kids well accpted and planned for), guests without attitude (obnoxious boors are not the hotels fault but can be a real vacation killer)

Some of the areas where it lacked the special experience that I was looking for:

I found the service diffident/removed and just effecient - putting on a front like a butler/valet for the English Royalty that have staid there. (can be a bit affected/). If you are not a regular you are made to feel a bit put off by asking for advice/help.

This was particuarly evident in the dining facilities where "season workers" from all over the World (some who may have been clearing cafeteria trays in Argentina before arriving to Lech) tried to put on an air that was not becoming of them. Overall the service in the dining facilites was very poor (every morning up to a 30 minute wait for eggs. After third day and polite complaint one would think that they would get it right......no just the same diffident shrug of the shoulders.

Our room was of normal size but old/out of date decorations (curtain bar broke) and very small old TV and limited closet space. Again not what we were expecting and more three-four star in nature.

Whilst the common areas were fantastic (and main reasong for a five star rating) a few drawbacks, the main lounge looks out into an alley next to another hotel. (At the Almhof you look out across Lech and towards the Rufikopf)

The floor when entering the ski room is very slippery (I fell as did others). A detail that one would think a hotel of this nature would address.

In general I had the feeling that the hotel was "living on its laurels" from the 90's when Princess Di used to stay.

Next time I will either pay up a bit more and go back to the Almhof Schneider or pay a bit less and head back to the Berghof.

This was my best visit to Austria and it was all down to the Hotel Arlberg where you are met with wonderful service and staff that can't do enough for you. The owner, Herr Schneider participates fully in the running of this hotel and this motivates the staff. Most of the staff speak perfect English and even remember your name when you speak to them. We will be returning.

We stayed at the Arlberg in January and it was quite possibly the nicest hotel I have ever been to. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and the service was impeccable. Everyone knew our name and took excellent care of us, even giving us gifts upon arrival and check-out. The food was out-of-this-world fantastic, with an impressive wine list. It was a set menu every night, but if you ever had an alternate request, they were more than happy to accommodate it. The location can't be beat. And after a long
day of skiing, the spa was the perfect place to relax. I hope it will
become an annual trip for us!

Our first visit was in January 2006, on a recommendation.
A year on, and it was like coming home.
Greeted at reception with a hug and the warmest of smiles from all the familiar staff. This is a family run hotel, and the family are very much in evidence, ensuring that guests are happy.
The service remains impeccable (they even remembered my asking for an extra pillow on the previous visit: and put it on 'my' side of the bed awaiting our arrival).
The Junior suite was very comfortable (with a huge amount of space for our ski clothes).
Dining is excellent. We found it difficult to choose evenings when we didn't want to dine in-house: the set menus (part of the half board) are first class, and always too filling.
And the new Spa is great. Every day, after skiing, we would have a massage, and then relax in the steam room, saunas and whirlpool. Admittedly, it does confuse us Brits deciding whether to discard our swimming trunks, or not.
Lech is a lovely resort: the skiing is great, but I am really looking forward to visiting it in the early summer. And we will definitely be staying in the Arlberg again.
