“Great family stay for top notch ski holidays”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

Excellent location and very warm and cozy establishment. Indeed family friendly, but needs some more space for kids.
Dominique the hotel manager, together with his "orchestra", were outperforming themselves daily, despite some unavoidable delays.
Excellent food together with a thorough, but quite overpiced wine list which needs ( together with the bar and extras' pricing) some serious reconsideration to that end.
Keep up!!

Last year we were impressed with the service and the offering but the nick-nacks in the room were a big turnoff. After reviewing the property and reading the owner's response we decided to return for dinner. And we we're disappointed. Our gang of 6 held court in the Fondue Room. It was a classic Austrian Alps experience. The wine list of Austrian specialties was excellent. The ambiance and the service were wonderful. All is forgiven. You've converted us into regular returning customers. Thanks for keeping your standards high and your hospitality world class. Keep up the good work.

Room Tip: Get a room facing east.

This small, family owned hotel is located 10 minutes away from the center of town. If you come at the height of a high season, when all the slopes are overcrowded and it is hard to get a table for lunch on the slopes, you would feel a real pleasure staying away from the crowd at this very private hotel. You almost feel that there are hardly any other guests and, most importantly, you do not need to wait for service. What makes this hotel special is attention to details - a nice children bathrobe and tiny slippers with pattern matching the children's linen, bedside linen mat, fine china and cutlery in the restaurant, a welcome champagne and fruit basket, complimentary mini bar and fine linen facial towels, a gel mask for tired eyes and always fresh fruit in the lounge area. The rooms are always being serviced while you are having meals and there must be coordination for that since you never see housekeepers.

I saw some reviews saying that the hotel is far from the ski lifts – it is indeed a long walk, however the courtesy van will take you to the lift and will pick you promptly when you are ready to go back. I do not see how that could be a problem. The hotel has 4 and a half stars, which is a new concept to me. At least I never stayed in such hotel before. I guess the only thing that would make it short of 5 stars would be the lack of marble in rather small bathrooms, but that is hugely compensated by everything else this hotel has to offer, including many extras that the generous hosts have to offer – complimentary tea, cakes in the afternoon. Some guest complained about paying extra for juice or tap water at breakfast, we did not have it on our bill, which is not a fair comment – we certainly did not feel, that we are overpaying for stay or food

We came with our 6 year old girl during half term and felt a warm welcome from the very beginning. The staff is amazing and quite big for a hotel of this size. They even have a sommelier and 4 different restaurants serving gourmet cuisine. You do not need to sign any checks while there and the staff greets you by name as if you are a regular guest. The staff speaks perfect English and has a great attitude. Dominik seems to be everywhere – serving food, helping with luggage and organizing children entertainment while communicating in multiple languages. Patrik, the bartender remembers every guest’s name, which must be quite challenging, given the fact that there should be around 50 guests staying, coming and leaving all the time. On Ash Wednesday and Valentine, a special early dinner was organized for children followed by movies for kids, so that the parents could enjoy an 8 course gastronomic dinner. On Valentine’s the complimentary champagne was served and a very special dinner.

The Kristiania is a wonderfully special place. You will not find staff more genial and committed to making your stay memorable. While the inn is somewhat at one end of the village, the walk is minimal and the driver is always happy to drop you off and pick you up. And you can store skis and boots at the base so you needn't haul them each day. And it's a short walk to the walking path along the river - the walk to Zug is really beautiful. Cuisine is also lovely, and some really excellent Austrian wines. We definitely would loveto return.

Let's start with what's good...no....amazing. This ski lodge is one of the best in the world. The service, the building, the amenities, the food, the owner and the hospitality are second to none. The attention to detail and the Fondue Room are wonderful. But the interior design will prevent me from going back. This is Lech, the Tyrol, an authentic wonder of the world. So why do you decorate the rooms in an Africa, a Moroccan, motif? An then there's the overwhelming abundance of chochki's, objects d'art that consume every horizontal surface. What do you expect the guests to do? Leave their travel objects, their clothes, on the floor? The decorating scheme is entirely impractical. Even the rich and famous need some surface area to place their belongings. This was a frustrating annoyance that will prevent me from going back. But hey, it's just my opinion. Otherwise this hotel deserves all the praise it gets.

Room Tip: Ask the owner to put her object d'art in storage while you're in residence.

Dear guest,

thank you very much for your post here - we're absolutely delighted about your great and also honest review and please rest assured that we will take every single part of it into consideration for the future (we never even thought about the fact, that the art in the rooms could use up too much practical space, so thank you very much for drawing our attention to this aspect!)
We're terribly sorry that our "extravagant" interior design prevented you a bit from enjoying your room - however, one word is completely sufficient and we would have put everything out that interrupted you in completely indulging in our Austrian Hospitality.
We are completely aware that our house is different from the others in Lech - some call it extraordinary, some call it specific - we just call it "Kristiania Lech".
Even though, this eclectic mixture of different cultures and ethnicities isn't everybodys cup of tea, I wouldn't recommend swiping the Kristiania off your list of possible winter destinations right away.
Just give us another chance when you plan your next skiing holiday and ask us directly for one of the Austrian Style Junior Suites - you will be astonished of how "tyrolienne" the Kristiania can present itself.

Once again, it was our utmost pleasure to have you with us and we really appreciate your input!

Best regards and kind wishes from the Omesberg,
Sincerely,

A memeber of the Kristiania Team
