After a week in the gite "Les Tilleuls"--Les Haras du Chateau--all I wanted for Christmas was Vadim, the two-year-old bay down in the stable. I visited the stables at least twice a day and a few times walked out to the pastures to watch the horses there. I loaded up on carrots and lump sugar; Quaramel, the miniature horse and barn mascot, was most insistent on that and would search my pockets if he felt I had been insufficiently generous.
We stayed in the upstairs apartment which was a lovely space, full of light, spacious, comfortable. The kitchen was enormous and well equipped. The bath was modern and convenient and included a washing machine, drying racks and plenty of space for this and that. The bedroom was large, included a long desk/table, a good-size clothes cupboard and a comfortable bed. Oftentimes in the morning I would get up, make coffee, write, and putz about while my husband slept in. It felt like home, but better because there are no horses at my home.
The location is excellent. The nearest town is Arras which is full of fascinating activities from tours of WWI sappers' tunnels to the Cite Nature. The entire area of the Somme is accessible by daytrips. We went as far as Ypres, Belgium in one direction and Amiens in another. If you are interested in World War One things, this is a perfect location. If you are interested in horses, and plan to bring your own... well... I can only imagine how much fun that would be.
