Top location, adequate facilities

Khao Sok was one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. TTRH has a brilliant setting right next to the national park (heard gibbons one morning), alongside a stream full of tropical fish where monkeys come to drink and flying lizards, kingfishers and bats flit by. Friendly staff, though most don't speak a lot of English, and a good restaurant. Accommodation varies from basic to good, and is rather pricey compared to comparable places around Thailand, but arguably worth it for the location. Some rooms tend towards dampness (a common problem here in the rainforest, also applies to other accommodation providers) so could pay to check a few rooms before deciding. And the water stopped working one day after a big downpour. Great base to explore the park - we went up the main track along the river a couple of times and some of the way to Sip Et Chan waterfall, the people who hired guides didn't seem to see any more wildlife than we did (long-tailed macaques, a glimpse of a langur, squirrels, hornbills, various lizards, frogs, a small snake, lots of butterflies). At the start of the rainy season we had no problems with leeches - until it started raining. Then there were lots, so be aware of those. The trip to Chiaw Lan Lake is also brilliant, though probably weather-dependent. Be aware that the trip to Nam Talu Cave (part of the lake trip, and terrific) requires a reasonable level of fitness.

Room Tip: By the stream is best; be aware of damp and mildew when choosing.

Stayed here as part of a budget backpacking tour. Our treehouse had quite a few stairs but the view was priceless. It was built right into the tree and was overlooking the river - great to fall asleep to the sounds of the forest. The washrooms were surprisingly well equipped - simple but had no issues with the plumbing/hot water. Our treehouse had some cracks so ants did get in - be sure your packs are closed tightly to avoid getting them in your clothes, etc. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Very rustic accommodations but definitely a 'not to miss' opportunity.

We switched from an A/C cottage that was not on the river to a river house, (there was not much water in the river in March). It was a pretty setting with no hot water and fan only, no A/C. Since it was so hot, neither was needed. They refunded us a few bahts when I asked, because this room was cheaper. The restaurant has a nice setting also with decent food. We only had breakfast since there were so many restaurants just down the road with beautiful gardens and great setting. This hotel was considered "in the park" because the entrance was just a few steps away. We did a self hike up to the river that most people pay a guide to go to. It was a little tough to find but we saw a lot of monkeys close up on the way. The highlight of the stay was going to Chiaw Lan Lake that was highly recommended to us, an hour ride away. It was our most expensive tour at 1500 bht but well worth the great adventure and the 11 hour day. The hotel seemed to be able to book anything needed for your travel but we booked our arrangements down the street. All guesthouses seem to work together with the same prices.

Staying in this hotel was included in our jungle tour.

Design of the area was really nice. The owners really look after their pretty garden and little houses. I'd love the fact that our house had a huge staircase to climb to the house which is partially integrated with a tree :-) Also behind the house there was a balcony with a nice view on the river.

A room is pretty basic. Bed, shower with a toilet and a place for drying clothes. There is a big net to protect from insects above the bed. Didn't help too much because at the second half of the night an army of ants found a way to my bed :-)) (Beware if you hate those guys)

Restaurant is really nice. The have very tasty Thai dishes and excellent service.

Overall staying there was an interesting experience, not necessarily the most comfortable one due to the jungle noises and some insects. Things to improve - put a kettle and cups in rooms and also room itself is an area for imrovement.
