“Nice vacation hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2009

We spent a terrific week at this hotel. The photos are very close to the reality - a beautiful pool, nice terrace for dining, not overcrowded private beach (sand) with a view of the Amalfi coast in the distance. The water is wonderfully warm! The personnel at the hotel was very helpful and friendly although not everyone spoke English. The rooms are modern and clean with bunk beds for the children. They are not overly large, but adequate for our stay - we were only in the room to sleep! Our only objection was that the airconditioner blew directly onto the top bunk bed so we could not have it on all night. The hotel is well situated for sightseing with Pompei, Vesuvus, Paestum and the Amalfi nearby. Food at the hotel is generally quite good, but unfortunately there are few other restaurants nearby. This was a good choice for us with two children for a very nice week vacation.

I just love Italy and everything that comes along with it-people, sea, shopping, food, crazy traffic, ...I have been this August in Salerno, and stayed in hotel Olimpico. Just great hotel, have everything - nice, clean rooms, great food (really great food, everything from large buffet breakfast to dinner with so many different fruits), great swimming pool, own parking space, place at beach,... just one thing missing - a bit far from everything. Just few kilometers from Salerno, ideal for families with children and people who do not like crowd. I had a great time, visited Pompei, Vesuvio, Capri, all the Amalfi coast towns and looking forward to go there again, very soon.

In the middle of nowhere rubbish beech. Only 1 local restaraunt taxi about 40 euro to Salerno. The buses finish at 8 pm. We got off the bus one day and a lady asked us why did you choose to stay here. We were told to be quiet at 11 oclock at night we were only talking to another middle aged couple. very nice hotel rubbish location

gabbian, Manager at Hotel Olimpico, responded to this review, September 2, 2009
That review is very old! Is dated June 2006. In that time all the Campania region and Naples and all the beaches had problems with the garbage due to the strike of the workers. So that guests stay at the hotel in that period (3 years ago).
That problem was fixed in the 2007, so now everything is clean in all the area and all the beaches are clean.
At the end this opinion is actually false.

We stayed here in late May/early June 09, just as "high season" was starting. The hotel was excellent - everywhere was immaculately clean and our rooms had obviously been recently done up with a good standard of decoration and furnishings (we had two "superior" rooms on the first floor). The "family" room we had (super-king-size bed and bunk beds) was quite small with a small balcony, but there was enough room given that we spent most of our time at the pool, beach or sightseeing. Our other room was a superior double with a bit more space, a good sized balcony with table and chairs, and a nice view of the sea and the Amalfi coast. Having a connecting door between the rooms was a great bonus as we've struggled to get other hotels to guarantee this. The pool is lovely and the playground was very popular with our son (and again was immaculately clean and well-maintained). The beach was smallish but fine. It's not as clean as beaches generally are in the UK but it wasn't as dirty as some of the previous reviewers had found it. And it's definitely sandy not rocky, though it's volcanic sand so it's fairly coarse. The continental breakfasts were good with lots of choice (especially if you like croissants filled with Nutella!). We found the hotel staff faultlessly polite and all of them bar one of the waiting staff spoke good English. It was always a pleasure to deal with them and they were very helpful with tourist information, booking taxis etc. We had dinner in the restaurant a couple of times and it was okay (they've improved since the microwaved pasta mentioned in a previous review!), but definitely not as good as some of the restaurants we went to. We didn't rate the restaurant across the road called Heaven that highly but it's a good place to go on your first night if you're tired and the hotel restaurant isn't open (it doesn't open for lunch or dinner until "high" season starts).

The area - as other reviewers have said you definitely need a car. It's easy to get up the coast road to Salerno, or south along the coast to Paestum and although the road is a bit busy driving it is no more daunting than driving anywhere else in Italy! The area is very run down but from my experience Italians tend to keep the insides of their homes immaculate but not take so much care of their outside surroundings, perhaps because they're fighting a constant battle with the weather, especially on this coastline. And yes, there are "ladies of the night" hanging around along this road, especially on the road south of the hotel but I didn't see any at all anywhere near the hotel either during the day or the night.

In short, I'd recommend this hotel very highly. It's very good value for money and for us is far preferable to the hotels on the Amalfi coast which are much more expensive and there are very few sandy beaches. If you want to visit the Amalfi coast drive into Salerno, park in the car park on the seafront and take the boat which goes along the coast (35 mins to Amalfi, as against an hour driving along the terrifying Amalfi coast road, 70 mins to Positano, and it goes beyond there too to Sorrento and Capri I think).

We have family in the area so I'm sure we''ll be heading back to the Olimpico again.

We have just returned from 2 nights at this hotel.

We have two children 9 years old. The hotel has excellent rooms, Very well presented and very attentive staff. The Breakfast was excellent and the gardens were well carded for and cool in the hot sun. The car part had shades for the cars. The area is run down outside the hotel but the Hotel compund is excellent, safe and quite. There are some excellent places to eat in the locality servibng good Italian fair at reasonable prices. If you want a reasonably priced break in a well run and clean hotel this is a good choice. You do need your own car as its is isolated but that is the point!

Four fairly seasoned travellers visited for a week in May needing a reasonable base to explore the Amalfi coast. Previous reviews coupled with the room rate assured us that we would not be disappointed. We could fault the hotel in no way at all. The rooms and general aura of the place is of excellent quality and careful management. Each of the staff are wonderful particularly Laura who has a dedication to the place that is almost vocational. Ignore the comments regarding the area as in Summer the place will come alive as people flock to the lovely sandy beach that stretches for miles. Great for families, couples, singles and for business or pleasure. Euro for euro probabky the best valie hotel I have ever resdided in
