I stayed at the lodge and went to the museum at the Centre over a weekend. It is a hidden gem in Malawi. Perfect for a weekend away from Lilongwe. The lodge was beautiful. Rooms are in thatched bungalows full of beautiful hand carved artifacts with fans and mosquito nets. The sound of frogs and crickets at night, combined with pitch black darkness, made me feel like I was in the 'real' Malawi of a hundred years ago. Food is fine.
The museum was impressive and worth the visit. It's a ten minute walk from the lodge through a historic village with some of the remaining hardwood trees in tact (rare in Malawi). Walking around the Mua Mission is an interesting blast into the past. Staff are super friendly and the ambiance is fantastic. A great place to buy wood carvings - cheaper than in town and with the name of the artisan clearly attached to each piece.
Definitely go here if you're wanting to get away from Lilongwe or you're on your way on a trip around Malawi. You'll benefit from a great, interesting lodge, a museum, a history lesson, beautiful carvings and a pleasant setting.
