Having visited Noosa regularly since the 1960s, I've seen it change from a tiny village to a millionaires playground where restaurnat prices rival anywhere in the world. Unfortunately the food is rarely as good as the establishments boast.
While high prices are now the norm in Noosa, it is the numbers on the town's wine lists that really has you gasping. It is hard to find a decent bottle of wine for under $60, something that takes the edge off a casual holiday meal.
So thank goodness for Rock Salt. It may not be the only Bring Your Own Wine restaurant left in the district but it was the only one I could find. For $60 you can buy a couple of bottles of good wine in the liquor store next door and spend a long evening enjoying the food without feeling you have been played for a sucker with expensive wine from unknown wineries.
The food and service at Rock Salt are very good. It is not five star dining but it is the top tier in Noosa. Wind is the establishment's real enemy on cool evenings as most diners are outside with plastic screens proving the only protection. Taking a table in the small inside area isn't much better as the wind whistles in the front door and on through the restaurant, Hope for a still and balmy evening.
