Description: Wasabi restaurant & bar, overhanging the scenic Noosa River, opposite the Noosa Recreation Reserve, is the brainchild of owner and Young Restaurateur of the Year Award recipient Danielle Gjestland. The entirely waterfront dining space has spectacular river views with amazing sunset vistas by day and a warm, contemporary, intimate dining space by night. Voted Queensland's #1 regional restaurant for the 2015 Good Food Guide, awarded two chefs hats, listed in Gourmet Travellers top 100 restaurants, and voted Queensland's Hottest Restaurant in the Australians Hot 50 List, Wasabi's food has a contemporary sensibility that is still deep rooted in Japanese purity.

Japanese food is my favourite, and I am fortunate enough to travel often to (in my opinion) the top 3 cities in the world outside Japan for sushi: London, New York and Sao Paulo.

So it is with a little apprehension that I headed or Wasabi after hearing the Sheraton's concierge say that this was Australia's top japanese restaurant. I am not sure if that is technically correct, but at the end of my dinner I was ready to believe it!

The setting is understated and relaxing yet sophisticated, service is smooth, and cocktails are very efficiently prepared.

We opted for the taster menu and were rewarded with a selection of intricate dishes, featuring also some sashimi and beautiful melt in your mouth sushi. The desserts were equally as good (I had a japanese version of the italian classic affogatto, with yuzu, while my fellow diners opted for a platter of different chocolate variations).

The place is very sought-after, so it's wise to book before you even get to Noosa.

“Top Notch”

It was the last night of our short holiday to Noosa, so we decided to go somewhere nice. Wasabi offered excellent service from very professional staff, prime location, the floor to ceiling windows gave the impression you were floating on the Noosa river. The food was exceptional..... We had the spanner crab Miso, an assortment of Sashimi of our choice, and mains were the seven spice Hereford and tempura seafood. Serving sizes were typical of our experience at most Japanese restaurants and we left very contented. We will return on our next visit. Good range of wines and sake. 10 / 10.

“Perfect japanese in perfect location”

The wet weather didnt stop us and we were justly rewarded. He had the 5course omokase and its just dishes you want to eat and enjoy. Its not overly fussed or tricked up like some degustations can be. Nothing that made us wonder. Each dish explained and questions answered although pressure was on them with the xmas surge. We agreed the sashimi is better than azuma and easily beats sake. There is a real care to each plate like yoshii and a good sensibility of what works. We have always enjoyed but this was our best time to date.

“Simply delicious”

We had an absolutely marvelous dinner last night. We havent been back since the chefs changed and the place tastes/looks different. We liked the new lighting which enhances the mood, more intimate. The bluefin tuna trio, sea urchin/scallop, yuke our favorites and we splurged on the wagyu to share. Amazing piece of meat and the onion rings have to be the best Ive had ever. A simple thing but you know when youve had it. the petit fours a fun way to finish. Waitress really helpfull matching a few different sakes and very pleasant. Busy but not pushy. Just a great night.

“Usually excellent dining experience ruined by dreadful service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2010

Wasabi has always been one of "must visit" restaurants every time I come to Noosa. But our experience on a quiet weeknight has made me rethink whether I will ever go there again. The restaurant was a third full. We placed an order consisting of old favorites and a selection of new dishes. The first dish of tuna sashimi was magnificent. The maincourse spatchcock teriyaki looked beautiful but was bland. However the continually bad service made for a very negative experience The service was disdainful. Sides were forgotten. Sake refills had to be asked for two or three times. The worst part was that the floor was bustling with waitstaff reesetting empty tables and using spray and wipe to clean the banquettes and the floor and yet completely ignoring us. It was the one time in a restaurant that I would have liked someone to come and ask "how is everything?" - but we never had that opportunity.
