Description: Wasabi restaurant & bar, overhanging the scenic Noosa River, opposite the Noosa Recreation Reserve, is the brainchild of owner and Young Restaurateur of the Year Award recipient Danielle Gjestland. The entirely waterfront dining space has spectacular river views with amazing sunset vistas by day and a warm, contemporary, intimate dining space by night. Voted Queensland's #1 regional restaurant for the 2015 Good Food Guide, awarded two chefs hats, listed in Gourmet Travellers top 100 restaurants, and voted Queensland's Hottest Restaurant in the Australians Hot 50 List, Wasabi's food has a contemporary sensibility that is still deep rooted in Japanese purity.

“Perfect japanese in perfect location”
Reviewed December 26, 2010

The wet weather didnt stop us and we were justly rewarded. He had the 5course omokase and its just dishes you want to eat and enjoy. Its not overly fussed or tricked up like some degustations can be. Nothing that made us wonder. Each dish explained and questions answered although pressure was on them with the xmas surge. We agreed the sashimi is better than azuma and easily beats sake. There is a real care to each plate like yoshii and a good sensibility of what works. We have always enjoyed but this was our best time to date.
Superb.

“Simply delicious”
Reviewed December 10, 2010

We had an absolutely marvelous dinner last night. We havent been back since the chefs changed and the place tastes/looks different. We liked the new lighting which enhances the mood, more intimate. The bluefin tuna trio, sea urchin/scallop, yuke our favorites and we splurged on the wagyu to share. Amazing piece of meat and the onion rings have to be the best Ive had ever. A simple thing but you know when youve had it. the petit fours a fun way to finish. Waitress really helpfull matching a few different sakes and very pleasant. Busy but not pushy. Just a great night.

“Usually excellent dining experience ruined by dreadful service”
Reviewed November 23, 2010

Wasabi has always been one of "must visit" restaurants every time I come to Noosa. But our experience on a quiet weeknight has made me rethink whether I will ever go there again. The restaurant was a third full. We placed an order consisting of old favorites and a selection of new dishes. The first dish of tuna sashimi was magnificent. The maincourse spatchcock teriyaki looked beautiful but was bland. However the continually bad service made for a very negative experience The service was disdainful. Sides were forgotten. Sake refills had to be asked for two or three times. The worst part was that the floor was bustling with waitstaff reesetting empty tables and using spray and wipe to clean the banquettes and the floor and yet completely ignoring us. It was the one time in a restaurant that I would have liked someone to come and ask "how is everything?" - but we never had that opportunity.

“Wasabi Tasting Menu”
Reviewed October 17, 2010

Service was brilliant. We were one of 6 tables in the restaurant for Friday lunch. Service was very attentive without being too in your face.

We both had the Tasting Menu - typical to tasting menu's the courses were small, but many and varied. Even though the courses were small, we were full at the end of the 7th course...

Food was expensive, but worth it. Restaurant has a nice natural outlook on the Noosa River.

Would recommend this to friends. Would be ideal as a surprise meal (ie birthday, anniversary). Although the restaurant welcomes children, I dont think this is a child friendly restaurant, solely due to the atmosphere of the establishment.

“Perfect lunch venue and food”
Reviewed October 7, 2010

My husband and I went to Wasabi for Friday lunch, having tried unsuccessfully to book for dinner earlier in the week. As it turned out, lunch was the perfect option for this wonderful restaurant. Not that dinner wouldn't be great too but the food and view were perfect for daytime.

The menu was a little overwhelming to start with because there are so many choices but once we got our heads around the structure, the only difficulty we had was choosing what NOT to have. It all sounded fantastic. Our waitress was very helpful in making suggestions and guiding us.

We started with a few sushi/nigiri dishes. Scallops with sea urchin roe (one of my favourite Japanese foods), two types of eel - fresh and salt water, and sushi roll with prawns, kingfish and trout. All were full of flavour and fresh as fresh.

Next we shared a few Kondate (entree) dishes - tuna tartare with black flying fish roe, potato dumplings in dashi broth, braised wagyu oxtail with abalone & mushrooms, pork belly in dashi broth. Everything was wonderful and it is hard to choose a favourite. This was probably one dish too many and we could have dropped the sushi roll from the starters without losing much.

Finally, we finished with Affogato - vanilla bean gelato with a chocolate shot and Brulee - which was perfect.

All of this was washed down with a lovely sake. The sake menu was extensive but with a good range of prices.

The service was spot on. Helpful, knowledgeable, friendly. Wasabi sits right on the Noosa River and during lunch we saw a swimmer, paddle boarders, fishermen, kayakers and a few pleasure craft. All added to the great experience. The only slight downside is that the tables are very close together. The Tatami room on the mezzanine level is very chic but the tables below were a little close - OK for lunch but would be a little too cramped for a romantic dinner.

We've eaten at Tetsuya, Sake and Nobu London and while Wasabi wasn't quite as good as Tets or Nobu, it certainly wouldn't be disgraced in the company of these great restaurants. In fact we overheard the waitress saying that the previous Wasabi chef had recently moved to open the new Brisbane based Sake.

Highly recommend this restaurant to people who really love their food and particularly Japanese.
