“Great apartment but modern development lacked character.”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Arrived in Noosa about 2030hrs, we did find the resort finally after phoning them for directions. With the resort having 128 roundabouts, so we were told, many without directions we found it easy to get disorientated. The direct route, from the main street, is only open from 7pm to 7am, other times a longer back route is used. We were in the 'Sands' building, apartment 7416. Walking into the apartment we entered a short corridor to the kitchenette/lounge, access to a balcony through one of the glass panels. From the lounge we entered the bedroom, one door was to a walk in wardrobe and security safe, another was to the bathroom (inc. shower, wash hand basin and jacuzzi bath), the third door was to laundry room and toilet, this also had another door leading back to the short corridor. TVs in both lounge and bedroom. When standing on the balcony you could just about see part of the bay. The apartment was excellent for space and facilities, most doors slid into wall recesses, kitchenette layout good. One downside is there was hardly any privacy on the balcony or in the lounge from the passageway on the building opposite, the blinds having to be lowered once the lights were on.
The resort supplied an electric buggy that was used to transport guests up & down the road certain times of the day as it is located at the top of a slope.
Two pools available, one for swimming lengths, the other smaller c/w sunloungers. Other facilities on sites included food & bottle shop, restaurant, conference facilities and electric bike hire.
There are two routes from the resort to two viewing points. The lower one is accessed from Sheoak Lane, you can continue from this viewpoint to the higher point or walk to the top of the resort and follow the path from Quondong Lane (although I thought another name was on the road then what was printed on the map supplied). View from the top is worth the walk and there is access to other footpaths on route.
The only downside to our visit was we had left some washing in a black bag next to the washing machine. We returned one evening to find the bag gone, contacted Reception and their reaction was non sympathetic, "What you're saying is that you left your clothes in a black bag." Although no black bags were left in the apartment by the resort, their final action was 'We'll send an email to Housekeeping'. Luckily we met a housekeeper on our floor the next day and explained the situation, she hadn't heard about the email but would investigate and check the bins. On our return that day most of the clothes had been returned, cleaned. The remaining clothes never reappeared. When we mentioned the episode to Reception when checking out, the young lady quickly did another check but to no avail. Our thanks go to Fiona & Rob who found some of the clothes.

Room Tip: Most rooms I would think were quiet as not much traffic drives through the resort. Might be differen...

Good morning,

First, an apology for any oversight in our follow up on property missing or misplaced. I have followed up with Fiona and Rob on process and outcomes.

Otherwise, thank you for the broad overview of the resort. Unsure how to respond on the statement of character, without reviewing website images directly to see the structure, layout and design perhaps it would be best described more so as a tree house style village nestled up against Noosa National Park (opposed to a cityscape high-rise hotel interacting directly with traffic, activity and retail).

Your comments appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you back when next you visit Noosa.

Booked online whilst travelling down from Port Douglas. Didnt know the area at all.

Arrived and was disappointed by the overall feel of the place - it was a grey day and the grey development added to a very somber feel.

We were early and the great staff allowed us access to the room. However, I think it was a disabled room as the bathroom was extremely basic. The washing machine was so loud that it couldn't be used whilst in the room (which was difficult as it was in the sitting room). The dishwasher was also faulty.

The room was very clean and tidy and the staff very very good. Plenty of covered parking although again I disagree with paying for WiFi and this is the first place I have stayed at where they have a coin operated computer which I think would work out even more expensive.

Perhaps if we had paid more we would have got a better room.

Loved Noosa

Room Tip: Having read other reviews I think the pool facing more expensive rooms would be much much better.

Good morning,

It is certainly unfortunate to read on this forum you rate the property as basic when that is the accommodation you have booked via a third party web site. In the interest of clarity to ensure the integrity of our suppliers, in this instance Wotif, the room categories allocated to guests who book through these channels are exactly the same as booked direct at the resort or via any other channel; as is the rate charged.

Noted repetitively through this site, booking a wots-the-catch room on Wotif will have you allocated to one that does not meet the same standards as the remainder of the resort – hence the heavily discounted rate.

I note on the manager on duty logs that you approached reception on arrival regarding your disappointment, your acknowledgement you had not read the room category detail when you booked it and that an upgrade option was offered to you; something you chose not to pay for or proceed with.

It is pleasing you enjoyed the remainder of your visit to Noosa and trust the rest of your journey is a positive experience.

To those reviewing this forum, you will note across all supply channels we have our Grande Villa at over two thousand dollars a night through to our lead in wots-the catch rooms at under two hundred. We go to great efforts to clearly identify the product and price prior to your purchase decision. We will continue to try and improve awareness to resolve this disparity.

It is clean, a 10 minute walk to Noosa, ample free car parking and the staff are nice

Stayed in a Wotif "Wots the catch' room

"Top Tips" for your trip
1. Very weird entry system with 2 flights of stairs down into the front door. Not suitable if travelling with senior persons or young children/strollers.
2. Car park is some distance from the room
3. The kitchen is just a microwave, a kettle and a very small round sink in a cupboard - we asked for a sharp knife to cut fruit. There were a couple of mugs but it is not a kitchen
4. Very steep hill to Noosa town which is fine if you are fit but not suitable for lazy folk/seniors/small kids. They do have a golf buggy taxi service
5. Fridge is a tiny bar fridge... don't plan to self-cater the fridge is way too small and the freezer section is open so it will freeze everything.

The set-up is off and ill thought through because:
Bedroom is huge with a giant walk in robe but bathroom is tiny
Lounge area is odd... its huge but the furniture is at one end so a huge empty space
No indoor table and chairs but a patio set on the balcony
Bathroom has two sliding doors which don't shut so no privacy
Huge laundry area with washer and drier
Long hall way
Heaps and heaps of storage

More like a hotel room than an apartment
If you go expecting a hotel or motel room you will be fine
Go expecting a self-catering apartment and you will be upset!

Wots the catch – it is exactly as we present prior to the purchase decision on the Wotif supply channel. These rooms are all you identify in your list and more. More? Yip, these five lots are literally below road level with the lounge room window and balcony opening directly to road across from a busy resort reception.

Outrigger Little Hastings Street Resort and Spa Noosa has a range of one and two bedroom apartments (and the fortune of over 30 luxury Villas and Penthouses) on offer to discerning holiday and conference visitors to Noosa. With the few rooms not meeting the standard of the remainder of the property these are indeed discounted by upwards of 25%. But, as mentioned above, arrive expecting a self-catering apartment and you will be upset; they are identified as wots the catch so we are as transparent as possible allowing you to make a very conscious decision prior to booking.

So why book them? As mentioned above, they offer a large space, the bedroom is at the back so noise from the road is not an issue, access to all resort facilities and, at the rates offered are a bargain for accommodation within walking distance to Hastings Street and Noosa Main Beach.

This eco designed resort offers so much more than your traditional lego designed hotel block; no shiny marble lobby and suited staff greet you here, rather hosts welcoming you to a structure reflecting (and respecting) its place in the Noosa Biosphere Reserve.

Thank you for the review allowing me the opportunity to respond and to all reading through these comments please let us know if you have any query on the product and services we provide; we look forward to welcoming you in to stay with us when next you visit Noosa.

We loved our stay at the Outrigger. The room was excellent. We had a 1 Bedroom Apartment with a Rainforest View. The furnishings were modern, the view great, the staff couldn't do enough for us.
Whilst we thought Noosa was beautiful and we loved the quirky shops and great food - we did feel like we had come about 20 years too early. My partner and I are in our mid to late 20's and don't yet have a family, nor do we surf. We found that during the day we were at a little bit of a lose end, and then after we had been out for dinner other than the surf club there wasn't anywhere really to go for a drink.

We will definitley come back to the Outrigger, and to Noosa - but maybe not until we have kiddies or a little older. It was just a tiny bit slow paced for us.

Room Tip: Rainforest room for sure!

Good morning and thank you

Your comments on the Resort and our staff is much appreciated.

Your comments about Noosa as a sleepy beach town have not only my staff commenting but also a number of my industry colleagues in accommodation, retail and restaurants in and around Noosa.

In the world of clichés, Noosa is indeed an early to bed, early to rise holiday destination. More so, unlike the glitzy glamour and late night, sore head in the morning attractions of our southern destination counterparts, Noosa attracts the ethically, socially and environmentally astute. Seen as a more responsible destination, and one committed to the responsibilities and obligations within the Biosphere reserve, holiday goers typically look for emotional, spiritual and intellectual interaction with the community and the places they visit.

There is much to see and do in Noosa. A great deal is free to access including the National Park, Main Beach, adjacent towns and Noosa River. Aside from the dining and shopping experience adventure through the everglades, to Fraser Island, all manner of water sport, MTB tours and any number of activity to keep one mentally and physically fit. It is the ideal destination for families, for conference and incentive business and for weddings. Noosa also boasts some of Australia’s premier festivals and events.

There is much discussed locally about late night venue trading, especially on Hastings Street. With a new council in January I have no doubt this will be a matter tabled well into the future. In the interim, enjoy your late 20’s, work hard on those kiddies and we very much look forward to welcoming you back when you’re a wee bit older.

Thanks heaps for sparking a great debate on a forum that is otherwise, and I generalise, a site criticized for opinions of the extreme.

I just spent my 50th birthday at the Outrigger Resort, Noosa. What a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and introduced to our beautiful tree top villa. The resort is set in lavish rain forrest, it is quiet and peaceful during the off season and for most of the time we felt like we had the resort to ourselves.
The walk to Little Hastings Street is barely 300m from the top of the resort. It is a beautiful walk through lush gardens and tropical rain forrest. Unless you have a disability its a 5-7 min walk. The staff are quite happy to drop you off in a buggy at any time, particularly if it is raining but umbrella's are provided also. The staff are OUTSTANDING for us there is no other place to stay now we have discovered the Outrigger but if you can lash out on a Villa they are beautiful.

Room Tip: Lash out on a Villa, they are removed from the main area of the resort and are peaceful and well app...

The staff are attentive and friendly and are determined to ensure a wonderful stay. The resort itself is a beautiful little village in the bush with a tiny distance to venture out to the Hastings Street experience. Nice gym and the national park at the doorstep, and a lap pool for that bit extra. Definitely no. 1 in resort experiences.
