I recently stayed in a 3 bedroom Hastings apartment on the 2nd floor with 4 friends.
The resort is at the end of Hastings St quite close to the river and is very well located for shopping and for walking to restaurants etc. It's lovely to be able to stroll down the street to take your pick of several restaurants. The apartment was very clean and pleasantly furnished, the kitchen is well stocked with plates, glasses, cutlery etc and has a dishwasher. It was serviced each morning and fresh towels were provided and the bed made. There is only a Microwave/Convection oven , not a normal oven.
The booking process was straightforward and the reception is manned all day until about 4.30 pm. We were provided with card/keys which are necessary to open all the exterior doors of the resort, including the back gate to the beach and also need to be used in the lift and to exit/enter the garage. The security of the resort is excellent.
There is a secure undercover parking area with one car space per unit. This is arranged in an L shape and access to the end of the "L" is very tight, if you have a large car and the first section of the car park is full, you may have to maneouver quite a bit to park.
The airconditioing is excellent but is not ducted into the third bedrrom. This room and the second bedroom have ceiling fans. The main bedroom has ducted air but no fans.
The bathrooms are fresh and clean with plenty of cupboard space. The shower in the main bathroom ran hot and cold for no apparent reason?
There is a nice pool and spa area at the beachfront end of the resort with plenty of recliners, umbrellas and chairs, as well as a BBQ and a outdoor dining table. The pool , which is only moderately sized, was at a very pleasant temperature and the spa was heated.
My reservations lie with the layout of the 3 bedroom Hastings apartment. The bulk of the apartments have private balconies facing the ocean. However, our apartment was located at the streetfront end of the resort with a very small private balcony facing out to Hastings street ( with a small table and 2 chairs) . This balcony is off the kitchen.
The lounge area of the apartment has a set of sliding glass doors which are the main entrance to the apartment, These doors face out to the rear of the resort with a view past all the other apartments to the ocean ( which can be viewed distantly between trees). Immediately outside the sliding doors is a wide public accessway for guests to access the lift and to walk past to their apartments. A section of this pathway has been screened off with a low glass barrier to provide a pseudo balcony for our apartment. There is room in this enclosure for a 6 seater outdoor table. It is an OK spot to sit with a glass of wine and to look down towards the ocean BUT you are essentially sitting in a public pathway with the lift well immediately to your right. If you prefer a private balcony this may be an issue for you.
The main living areas ( lounge/dining) of the apartment are a bit gloomy as the wide verandah in front of the lounge doesn't let in the best light, and in the dining area there is only a glass brick window which faces out to the enclosed public hallway. The kitchen, however is very bright and light.
For a weekend, the gloomy living area and the odd balcony weren't really a problem for us as we were out and about a lot BUT if I was staying longer I would have definitely preferred to stay in one of the other apartments with a more conventional layout.
