To celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary we had been looking for a break down south so my husband could go fishing and i could have a bit of quiet time so we had done a bit of research on the internet and came upon clover cottage which sounded ideal so we booked 3 nights. The booking confirmation has the address as manjimump but beware the address is actually quinninup which is 30ks further south. Confused the crap out of our sat nav. We booked 2 bedroom cottage number 4 but on arrival the second bedroom was locked. Just the two of us i know but if you pay for 2 bedrooms then that is what you should get or if you lock the second bedroom then surely we should just be charged for a 1 bedroom cottage. No mobile phone signal, no internet, no landline and 4 tv channels. Definately isolated. Tired furnishings in definate need of refurbishment. We had to clean the grubby finger marks from the tv, clean the grime from the food cupboards and drawers which we very dirty, with cobwebs, spiders and cockroaches in the lounge. We drove to manjimup on day 2 to buy some insect spray and to contact the outside world. Bedroom freezing, glad we took extra blankets. The website states that fly fishing equipment is available for hire but when we enquired there was only one old rod available which had kinked fly line. Not ideal. Couldnt use the verandah as was too cold and no outdoor heating. Owner pleasant but appeared disinterested. This accommodation was not at all what we expected and we stayed only 2 of the 3 nights and i was ready to come home after one night. For us needs brought into the 21st century.

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments. It's unfortunate the experience you had wasn't to your expectations. One of the downsides of living in a river valley is the lack of mobile service, which is why we offer free wifi for our guests at the office. We are 23 kms from Manjimup, but it is all bitumen and takes 20 minutes to reach the town. We offer spin rods to our guest free of charge, but due to the high cost and maintenance of fly fishing rods, we encourage our guests to bring their own fly rods. We do provide a hire service for fly rods, if you wish to fly fish and can also organise tutoring with prior notification. Our cottages have been built with the charm of it's historic setting in mind. Our maintenance and upgrade program of the cottages is ongoing and we endeavour to ensure our guests are comfortable. We provide a cosy wood fire as well as reverse cycle heating to keep you warm in winter. We are a family owned and run business who values our guests comments. We endeavour to offer our guests the experience they are looking for, but know there is always ways to improve.

We had a wonderful three days at Clover Cottage, arrived to the welcome smell of freshly baked bread, and lovely log fire burning. As an avid fly fishing family we were able to get back into the swing of casting, practicing on the little trout dams just infront of the cottages, which were not overgrown with bushes and trees which we have found at previous trout dams in the area. Then to top it off we tried our luck on the trophy dam with an afternoons fishing and had great success, catching five lovely large trout in a late afternoon rise ... which really made our w/end getaway. Clover Cottage Country Retreat comes high up in our recommendations for a very relaxing getaway which can be as relaxing or as busy as you make it, from lovely walks, good bird watching, canoeing on the Warren river, fishing and for those keen fly fishermen/woman, for a small fee one can enjoy fishing on the trophy dam where we know there are large trout waiting to satisfy any fly fishermans dream!

After one day, my husband turned to me in the glorious setting sun, dappling through the fabulous south west forrest, and asked....do you think we could stay here a bit longer? I smiled and answered that I was already there. Considering what we were getting in return, it was great value. This corner of the world produces the most magnificent food, and a quick trip into Manjimup on the way through garnered all the food we needed. Best cherries ever. Holy Smoke in Pemberton was great for a lunch stop and also provided some tasty vitals to take back to the cottage. Fishing every day in the dams was great sport, and a real treat on the Warren river. Spent an afternoon in a cottage-provided hammock on the deck, reading a book cover to cover. Twitters heaven watching the blue fairy wrens dart in an out of the natural screening in between the cottages.

What a uniquely relaxing stay at a gorgeous little jewel, of the south-west wine region. Clover cottage is the perfect "any" family getaway - for any couples or families with small children. We took our three year old and she has not stopped raving about it, from the farm animals to the sense of "exploration" that only a child truely understand's.My wife, child and I stayed at cottage three for four nights and found ourselves immersed into the overly peaceful ambience of this little gem.
To walk leisurely almost at amble, was a welcome change to our "normal pace" of city living, the cozy fireplace was delightful when mixed with a couple of fruity sou west vino's!!
Sitting on the balcony overlooking the trout lakes in your little self contained cottage gave a real sense of having your own little farm house and the only noise was the frogs at sunset and the wrens and sheep in the morning as the sun caressed the open verandah where we cooked up some tasty Bacon and fresh eggs on the beaut barbie!
Everything was clean and neat and our host Paul was a true gentleman that loves his life, and it shows in the presentation of this gorgeous country retreat and in his welcoming open demeanor. A very helpful fellow and a great source of fishing info too.
Would suggest a drive down to windy harbour - nice drive through the forrest and some lovely coastline.
As for the fishing.. it was great, the trout lakes on the farm itself had some nice trout and redfin and the morning and arvo rise would see trout cruise the edges of the pond searching for food and made stimulating sight casting.I would venture down two-three times a day for a quick cast.
However the real jewel was the trophy Dam about a 10 minute drive back up towards manjimup - very quiet drive at 6am too, if you fish the morning rise. The mist lifting off the water as you fly-cast in such a tranquil environment was reward in itself but with 3lb rainbows a standard and much bigger fish rising its a must-do and will only get better! But beware, the fish there are smarter than normal dam fish, they have almost become "wild" again and exhibit very specific feeding habits - a nice challenge!
Overall the stay was just what we wanted and ticked all the boxes, everyone will love it there kids, wives and fisherman!!!
Well done Paul, I'm very jealous of your slice of life!!!

Room Tip: All cabins are top notch, all with gorgeous views of the farm.

Loved every moment, from walking into our cottage to be greeted by the smell of freshly baked bread, to the rustic fire, the beautiful views from our balcony, access to fishing just metres away from our cottage, listening to the sounds of the karri forest as the sun sets, canoeing & fishing on the river, the lovable donkeys & the friendly owners. No luck catching any fish this time, but perhaps the waters will be cooler next time we visit and we'll be able to cook our dinner! Thanks for a wonderful stay Petrina & Paul.

My husband and I, together with three year old & our friends with their two year old spent two nights at Clover Cottage, we loved the birds & the your "blonde bombshell" dog visiting us. The fresh bread waiting on arrival was a very nice touch. The cottage was perfect and the views ever changing with the day. We had good intentions to explore the surrounding area but it didn't happen, we were too relaxed & happy to try our luck at fishing, eating & chasing the kids around. The Donkeys & hammock were a hit with the kids! We had a lovely weekend - many thanks!

My husband and I, together with two of our Grandchildren spent three days at Clover Cottage, enjoyed the fabulous bird life zipping around us, the fresh bread waiting on arrival, the very cosy cottage, great views from our verandah. Went off for drives around the district and enjoyed a good meal at the local Tavern up the road. Lots of Emu and Kangeroos around on the roads and in the forests. Our host Petrina was lovely, and pointed out we had a Tennis court at our disposal and the Donkeys and Goats to feed and have a chat to.... lots of DVDs and Games to borrow if you chose. Great time had by all of us, thanks.

I hope you captured some photos of those cheeky little wrens that helped themselves to your breakfast! What a special time to spend together with your lovely grandchildren. So glad you felt at home and relaxed in the cottages.
