Owner description: One of the most popular tourist attractions and photographed icons in Western Australia, a must see for any visitor to the Margaret River region. Enjoy breathtaking views above and below the ocean from the Busselton Jetty – the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere and second longest in the world! Spanning over 1.8kms (over a mile long), the Jetty is home to one of only six operating Underwater Observatories in the world. Ride the new electric Jetty Train along the length of the Jetty, with 360 degree views across Geographe Bay, and take a tour of the Underwater Observatory at the end. Experienced guides lead you through the natural wonders that lie beneath the Jetty where its piles create Australia’s greatest artificial reef, host to an awe inspiring forest of vividly-coloured tropical and sub-tropical corals and fish. Descend 8 metres beneath the water’s surface to view more than 300 different marine species in their natural habitat. Don't miss the Museum and Gift shop.

We arrived at the jetty at 1 pm as the "train "driver" was shutting gates on the train carriages. When I asked if we could get on he said "no the green flag is up". What an ordinary effort from an over-officious upstart! This is supposed to be a tourist destination. Show a bit of interest in your customers! Our one second "late arrival" would have cost us a 1 hour wait for the next "train" so we walked. I recommend you don't go by train the walk is so much better and quicker!!! ALSO you'll save heaps and hopefully put the bus driver out of a job!

The Busselton Jetty is an icon. Its a long walk but worth it. Look out for the plaques along the hand rails.

As a local tourist, I have been walking Busselton jetty most years since 1975. I remember it before Cyclone Albey, and all the attempts to keep it open and maintained through recurring fires and storms. The current jetty seems to have little of the original structure and charm despite its history.

The aquarium at the end, the so-called train and now iconic shop in the entrance are all very noble attempts to save the jetty, but it has become a commercialised tourist attraction with heavy prices. It just looks like things were done to a budget, not an outcome as things seem to fall short in really making it something - looking forward to the foreshore redevelopment that just may recapture the some of attractions and excitement from the 1960s and 1970s.

Still worth seeing.

At 1.8 Kms in length, the Busselton Jetty has to be one of the best walks out into the ocean. Great value at only $2.50 (poceeds of which are used to keep restoring the jetty). The walk is so relaxing and the air so fresh and invigorating.

Great idea to do the walk and then settle in for fish and chips on the foreshore if the weather permits....or perhaps one of the famous local SIMMO Icecreams.

Great to see what the fishermen are catching too.

TIP: Take a warm jacket as it can get windy and pretty chilly out there.
