A great gem at Emu Point boat pens in Albany. I don’t really like sharing how good this place is, I’d rather keep it a secret, but if you must go, don’t be in a hurry, because it’s always busy and you might have to wait a bit for your food, but well worth it.
We always have the squid, fish and chips for two ($28), really good with a local dry white wine (take your own) (and your own glasses). You can sit inside or out. In winter there’s even a fire. There’s no fine crockery or cutlery here, it’s all disposable, and be hungry because you’ll get a good feed. The fish is white, flaky, lightly battered and crispy, the chips are French-fry type and the squid is salt & pepper and tender, served with lemon wedges and you help yourself to salt and vinegar. And try the tartare sauce. Then walk it all off with a stroll along the jetties and the beach, perfect.
