Felt overawed by the immensity of King George Sound, so beautiful. Loved all the islands and the rock formations. Such an ancient land!

A wonderful backdrop for the city of Albany. Our troops and New Zealand troops boarded ships here bound for Gallipoli nearly 100 years ago. The Anzac Peace Park right on the sound is brilliant.

This is a scenic sound, which can be appreciated in many ways. A whale-watching cruise, a wild beach at Ledge, family friendly beaches at Middleton and Emu Point, Mount Melville or the sweeping white sands on the Vancouver peninsula.

But the best way to appreciate it is the truly stunning 5hr return bushwalk to Bald Head. Sound on one side with turquoise waters and beaches, Southern Ocean pounding on the other. I rate it as Australia's best day walk.

If you do it, try to catch the sunrise at Ithmus Hill 15 minutes in. Stunning.

This was the last place we went to before heading back home to Perth. I wish we went there before on a sunny warm day as it would of been so nice to have walked on the water or/and had a swim. Love how it's right next door to Whale World!
