Owner description: The surging power of the Southern Ocean is evident at The Gap, a spectacular channel in the 40 metre high coastal granites of Torndirrup National Park. Lookouts at both the Gap and natural Bridge provide outstanding views of the Southern Ocean and the coast from Bald Head to West Cape Howe. Visitors to the Gap can venture onto a universally accessible new viewing platform 40 metres directly above the surging seas in all but the worst weather conditions. From the gentle and mesmerising heaving of calm seas to the buffeting rush of wind and spray of winter storms the experience changes from day to day. A raised pathway leads from the car-park and picnic area across the top of the exposed granite ramparts to reach the viewing platform at the Gap. The pathway gives safe access to the best views while protecting vulnerable plants and lichens on the rock surface from trampling.

Great place to go to clear your head and breathe some clean fresh air! Fantastic feeling with the waves pounding the rocks below. Wouldn't want to be one of those idiots on the actual rocks playing hero - dangerous

“Wild and Windy Day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

On the day we went it was raining and windy. A storm was brewing. That did not stop us from visiting. The view from the top is something to see with the waves crashing over the rocks below. Worth the trip to see.

“A Beautiful View”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

This isolated area gives you two very different views in one. The Gap is a narrow inlet - about 30 meters/100 feet long - carved into the cliffs. The Bridge - just 50 meters/160 feet away - is a natural stone formation, again caused by the unique erosion pattern of the sea. There are areas that remind me of the shore at Acadia National Park in Maine. The footing is rather uneven to the viewing platforms for each. There is a paved foot path that takes you to about 10-15 meters/30-50 feet from the viewing platforms. But, after that stones are uneven with wide gaps. So, care should be taken. We witnessed one man with a walker who abandoned the walker to crawl over the stones and had to be assisted on several occasions, because it was just not an area that he should have attempted.

Very pretty. And, worth the time, if you are in Albany.

This marvel of nature had the kids fascinated...and their mother a little nervous! Was an amazing sight that was worth the visit on a blustery day

“Worth a look”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

If you have a spare few hours in Albany it is well worth going out to see the Gap and Natural bridge. They are only a short walk from the carpark. It is unusual to see such a large natural bridge in granite. Be careful with small children around the cliff edges
