Lavender Cottage is totally a hidden gem in Albany.

The resturant is set in a small elegantly restored cottage tucked in between commercial buildings in the centre of town.

The tables are small and quite intimate. The service is great. very attentive but not intrucive.

The menu is gorgeous. Beautifully presented French food. The evening menu is a set price for either a 2 or 3 course dinner. Its realitively pricey (compared to the bigger family al la carte resturants in town) but the meals, venue and atmosphere are really quite special & unique in Albany.

Something that makes the price a lot more reasonable is the fact they don't change corkage for BYO alcohol.

Went as a group, 2 tables of 6. This was a shame as I dont think you get the full feel of everything that makes this resturant special.
Its perfect for small groups, and couple. I also wouldn't recommend for young childern. Although the staff don't make it seem so, the seating area is very small and very busy.

The hosts are very pleasant but the food is average for the high price tag.
I ordered pork belly and duck but had to try and cut the top of my serve of pork belly.
It was so soggy, that i couldn't get my knife through it and had to tear it off. It sat there like a lump of rubber.
Waitress saw that half the meal was left and never inquired as to what the problem was.
The duck was nicely cooked but totally overpowered by truffle oil.
Truffle oil needs to be light of hand when applied to delicate meat.
All in all...would not go back.

The dinner menu has 4 entree options and 4 mains options with about 6 or 7 desserts. Dinner is about $70 for two courses or $80 pp for three courses. Entrees and mains are not priced separately and you need to have either 2 course or 3 course meals.

The restaurant is well rated in Albany and book heavily in advance.

There was high expectations after reading reviews before going there. It was not a restaurant that would suit everyone though. Not really for the young or young at heart it seems to me to appeal more to mature diners.

It was a full hour between entree and mains, and I thought the food just did not meet expectations. The food seemed a bit bland, selection was limited and ambiance was sort of dull. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

What a lovely experience from the beautiful cottage to the delicious menu. Friday night is the only evening you can have an evening meal, you must book ahead and it is BYO which I forgot so it was spring water for us. Guests dressed for the occasion which gave a feeling of ambience. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend.

We had a really good meal here. Scallops for entree were superb and the rabbit main course was extremely satisfying. BYO is nice. Service was prompt and gracious. In general a sublime evening in Albany. Be sure and book
