Made a special visit to this location. Essentially its just a shop with sandlewood products. If that's what you're looking for, great and stop as you're passing but dont make a special visit. There is a factory to be seen through a glass window but it wasn't operating. The cafe looks cheap and cheerful... probably the highlight.

Hi Steve
Thank you for visiting Albany and The Sandalwood Factory’s showroom. We would love it if you visited us again to join our free information tour. Once experiencing what we have to offer, we would greatly appreciate a second review.
The tours run very regularly, starting on the hour 10am – 4pm, 7 days per week. They take approximately 25 minutes and you will learn about Australia’s rich Sandalwood history, the properties and uses of the oil, the oil extraction process. Dependant on our manufacturing schedule; you’ll be shown into our manufacturing facility where we make our creams and perfumes. As an added experience you could try our world famous relaxation session, “The Cone, The Gong & The Bowl” for an hour of relaxation you will never forget. You can further pamper yourself with a massage, reflexology or reiki in our relaxation centre and finish your day with homemade luxurious cake and locally roasted coffee.

Did you know?

- Western Australia’s first export in 1845 was Sandalwood.

- Sandalwood has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic and Australian Aboriginal medicine to treat conditions like stress, insomnia, eczema and acne. Buddhist monks inhaled Sandalwood oil before meditation, Australian Aborigines used the scent to relax and focus before walkabout and today we provide a pure, ethical and sustainable organic essential oil. We are the world’s largest Sandalwood oil distillery and supply our oil around the globe to leading perfume houses as well as cosmetic, skincare and pharmaceutical companies.

- There are about 15 species of Sandalwood throughout the world. The two most valuable species (Western Australian Sandalwood and Indian Sandalwood) are both grown in Western Australia and are processed right here at The Sandalwood Factory.

- All Sandalwood Trees are hemiparasites. They “tap” their roots onto the roots of their host plants to obtain additional nourishment and water in order to thrive in both the wild and plantations.

Thankyou again for visiting us Steve. We hope to see you again soon so you can join on a tour to experience what we offer.

Warm Regards
From The Sandalwood Factory Team.

You have to like and believe in the therapeutic value of Sandalwood to buy products from here. But many do and the factory and display area is a good place to visit, especially if you take the short tour. There is a nice café and some interesting local handicrafts for sale.

Hi Alan
Thankyou for visiting Albany and The Sandalwood Factory. We're glad you enjoyed our cafe and the free information tour. Although we are the world's largest Sandalwood oil distillery; our manufacturing department that makes our skincare, beauty and lifestyle products is boutique sized and many of our products are manufactured poured and labelled by hand right here in Albany Western Australia. We are continually improving our product quality and value for money. All prices for our products can be seen on website in the online shopping section.

Sandalwood has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic and Australian Aboriginal medicine to treat conditions like stress, insomnia, eczema and acne. Buddhist monks inhaled Sandalwood oil before meditation, Australian Aborigines used the scent to relax and focus before walkabout and today Mount Romance provides you with a pure, ethical and sustainable organic essential oil.

Properties of Pure Australian Sandalwood oil has also been proven in modern science.
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY - Helping to soothe and reduce redness (Greenoak, unpublished: 2000).
ANTIBACTERIAL - Works to cleanse and inhibit bugs, particularly bacteria linked to acne (Beylier & Givaudan: 1979)
RELAXANT - Sandalwood has been shown to calm the mind, promote focus and general wellbeing.

As you are interested in the Sandalwood story we recommend you visit the Sandalwood Factory in Kununurra, Western Australia. Set in the heartland of Kununurra's Sandalwood plantations, staff will give you an interesting insight into the soil to oil processing of the locally grown Indian Sandalwood. Then you will have a completed picture of Australia's unique Sandalwood industry.

Thank you again for visiting us Alan. We hope to see you again soon.

Best Regards
From the Mt Romance Team.

Many years ago I saw a TV documentary on the growing of Sandalwood trees in North West Australia. I was so interested in the fact that it was in short supply around the world and I thought I want to buy shares in this Company but unfortunately at the time it was not a public listed company.. we came upon The Sandwood Factory by accident..or maybe fate....Mt Romance is an experience of the senses...I was keen to start buying as soon as I got in the shop but it was 3.30pm and we had not had lunch yet and their Cafe was still open so lunch it was and so scrumptious..followed by a tour of the working of collecting this precious expensive oil. Thanks for having the tour, as it gave us a discount on certain products..well I felt like a child in a candy shop...there were so many products available from skin care, anti-ageing creams and balms, makeup, hair care, deodorants, soaps, parfume's, oils, scarfs, vaporisers, incense for mozzie repellents, even shredded wood and nuts for drawers etc etc etc...Our credit card got a hiding.....I certainly hope to go back one day but will definitely buy online until then!

We could not do the regular tour as several school parties were going to the factory. We did get the offer of a short personal tour which was interesting. We also watched the video which explained the production e.t.c.
Plenty of products to see, try and buy.
