Very impressive statue at the top of many stairs. If you are a bit on the frail side, suggest you drive up to the top of the hill. The views are impressive.

On Mount Clarence a nice memorial to the Australians WW1. A nearby lookout under construction / renovation for opening very soon.

This spot has spectacular views to distract you, but the memorial is the star. Shifted here from Port Said in Egypt it commemorates the Desert mounted corps and reminds the visitor of the thousands of who gatheed here before shipping out to the Middle East for WWI

This is a great stop on the way to the Fortress. Views are great from the top and you get a great 180 degree panorama over the bay. When I was there on 2 January, access to two of the lookouts (which would give good city views) was blocked until at least the end of March for maintenance. Despite this, it was still a worthwhile stop for a brief look.

Tip: On the left on your way back down the hill is another more easily accessible lookout with no stairs near where the bike trail ends. The main views are to the northeast, meaning you get a reasonable view of the Stirling and Porongorup Ranges. This is a good option for anyone not interested in climbing around/at least 100 steps to get up to the memorial.

The Desert Mounted Corps Memorial on Mt Clare is brilliant, wonderful view in one direction but half the reason for going up there - the magnificent view south over the ocean from the lookout - is closed off to the public until mid-2013 while renovations are undertaken.
