“Lovely Property, Great Location.... but”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

A family of 5 adults and one infant we spent 6 nights, over the Christmas period in the Vancouver. The property was in an excellent location and comfortably accommodated our group. We liked the lay out of the house and it had some nice features.

However, we were disappointed by some aspects of our stay. There were a number of issues we sought to discuss with the owner shortly after we arrived. Unfortunately, telephone calls to the 2 contact numbers went unanswered and a voicemail message elicited no response. Staff at Albany Visitor Centre, through whom the booking had been made, were unwilling to assist and we were left feeling frustrated for the entire duration of our Christmas family reunion!

We were concerned that we were only provided with one set of towels per person and that the property information booklet stated that those were not to be laundered by guests! The iron was broken, as was the heater in one of the bathrooms. Despite booking for 5 adults there were only 4 place mats for the table and 4 wine glasses. A critical light in the stairwell needed a bulb replacement. On using the dinner plates for the first time one was found to be very dirty, clearly not washed following use! The cutlery drawer was grubby as were the windows, which rather spoiled enjoyment of the nice views! There were 2 small dried flower arrangements that were well past their best.

For the $2500 that we had happily paid we had expected to experience "the attention to detail" noted in the promotional material. Sadly, this was not the case! No fresh flowers or home made bread for us!

While this is undoubtedly a very nice property, I would hesitate to recommend it to others given our difficulty in making contact with the owner and the unwillingness of staff at the Visitor's Centre to take any action to attempt to rectify the issues that concerned us. To be advised, when returning the keys, at the end of our stay, that this was the first complaint they'd had and the owner may be away on holiday... simply served to exacerbate the frustration, disappointment and annoyance that we felt ! We are a Scottish family who were getting together for the first time in 2 years, from Perth, New York and Kununurra... this was not quite the experience we'd hoped for!

I am grateful to this guest for drawing these matters to my attention.
Because of a telephone troubles, I learned of the issues only yesterday, and of course immediately telephoned the guest to apologise, and to offer an acceptable form of recompense ... and I am delighted to say this was accepted.
Hanover Bay Apartments prides itself on being a premier destination in Albany. Each of the matters addressed by our guest has now been remedied, with systems implemented to ensure they do not re-occur.
I will always welcome comments from guests as a way to assist continuous improvement of the Hanover Bay Apartments.

Excellent accommodation!

We stayed in apartment one for 3 nights and enjoyed every moment of it.

Upon arrival, we were welcome with delicious bread, tea and coffee powder, fresh milk . This helps us settle our hungry stomach as we had arrived later than planned.

Apartment one is a two storey apartment, with kitchen, lounge area and dining on the upper level, and 2 bedrooms downstairs.

The apartment is very well maintained and super clean. It has all the essentials you need. The kitchen is especially well equipped if you intend to cook.
The bedrooms are very cosy with clean and comfy sheets.

From the dining room, you get great views of Albany town and Mt Clarence.

It is also a short walk to the Replica of the Brig Amity and the Anzac Peace Park. Go for a walk during sunset to get great views of Mt Clarence and albany town from the park.

The accommodation is also near to the town centre, within walking distance.

There's a supermarket (IGA) near the town, however it is more pricey than the other 2 supermarket Coles and Woolworth, just about 7 mins drive away.
However, IGA does have longer operating hours than the other two.

Overall, its one of the best accommodation we've been to. Highly recommended.

We recently reserved all 3 apartments for a family celebration and can confidently assure readers that the apartments are well presented in both terms of quality, comfort and location. Due to unexpected, tragic circumstances we had to make some changes but Chris was extremely helpful and ensured that our changing needs were met. Forget the nonsense about un-named bars of soap and loose leaf tea and be assured that these apartments are a first class oasis. I can't find the words to express how welcome we felt and how well looked after we were. There are lots of touches including homemade bread, flowers and unlimited white fluffy towels. As in all accommodation you get what you pay for and these 3 apartments were worth every penny. I will definitely be re-booking when I next visit Albany.

Room Tip: We booked all 3 units; all are immaculate.

Excellent location but I would have thought that for $250 a night I would have at least found more than just a cake of unnamed soap on a dish by the handbasin. No shampoo or bodywash. With only 1 towel each and 1 bathmat, 1 handtowel and 1 facewaher to share per bathroom I find this is not hygenic and very much overpriced. As we regularly stay in hotels, motels and apartments in many different states - this place was a disapointment to us. At $250 per night it might be fine for a family or 2 couples but not for just 2 people. The breakfast goodies were good but pity they did not put T-bags instead of leaf tea. It is such a pity that this place was let down by the little things and the lack of value for money.

Thank you Chris and Jill for a wonderful stay. My family and I stayed in Apartment 1. It was very fancy, great views and I loved Jill's extra special touch of fresh flowers and a delicious home made welcome breakfast pack. It was so close to everything Albany City had to offer, restuarants, great nightlife, supermarket, bottle shop, beautiful walks, funky little shops. It had been 10 years since I had been to Albany and I was so impressed how "trendy" the place was getting. This really is a 5 star property and I cannot fault one single detail about the apartment or the wonderful hosts. I will most definiately be back to stay!

We've been visiting Albany annually for many years, to visit a grandmother, so we generally stay about a week. As our budget has increased and different family members travelled with us over those years, we've stayed in many different places. These apartments are definitely our favourite!
Proximity to the town is fantastic. The beautiful bread, eggs, butter and marmalade waiting for our arrival were delicious. The layout, presentation and comfort of the apartment were spectacular - the king bed is super comfy! The surrounding gardens and wildlife were so relaxing. And in the only couple of minutes we saw the owners in our entire five night stay, Chris made us feel very welcome and then left us to enjoy the place on our own. We'll stay here again, without question!

We've not experienced many apartments as good as this. Comfortable in all aspects, great bathroom. Simple, but classy design and decor. Welcome pack included bread baked by the owner, home-made marmalade and local honey.
