I have just returned to Perth with my wife, having stayed at the Big Grove B&B. I believe these reviews are to inform fellow travellers of an 'overall' experience of the accommodation. It is a good thing that I am able to remain subjective and not be influenced by someone else who seems to have taken a personal dislike to their host (nala55647).
When staying in a B&B you are a paying guest, paying yes, but also a guest in someone's home. You have chosen this either because of convenience or because of not wanting to pay hotel prices.
It would appear that nala55647 was more interested in the latter, saving big bucks on the accommodation and then advising everyone to save an extra $10 booking fee and also make the owner wait for his money. This all stinks to me of a personal attack on the owner rather than a review of the accommodation.
My Review of Big Grove B&B
Our room with en suite was clean, well-appointed and comfortable.
All the rooms are situated on the first floor leading off from a large furnished communal area (would suit a family occupying the whole floor). This has tea & coffee facilities, microwave, fridge/freezer and large flat screen TV. The TV is sometimes affected by atmospherics in the evening, but the TV in each room is not affected.
This did not bother us as we socialised with the other traveller’s, letting each other know of the wonders or lemons found on the previous days outing.
Our host, Jim, was very hospitable, always had a smile and a joke. He is very knowledgeable of the local area and would go the extra mile to ensure you had an enjoyable time. I noted that he was the same with the other traveller’s, even offering others to loan his binoculars for a better view of the King George Sound.
There are numerous paintings and historical artefacts, one lady traveller said although interesting it was a woman's nightmare for dusting; from a man's view it was really interesting period! Jim has information on every piece and is very proud of his collection; after all it is his home.
With regard to value one has to first mention the breakfast, which is included in the price. There are all manner of fruits and cereals, fresh brewed coffee and tea. This was followed by a full cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast. All produce was sourced locally and this was evident in the taste. Secondly, we paid $125 per night for two, inclusive of breakfast; considering this was still during school summer holidays it was a bargain.
We hope to return to Albany and would not hesitate to stay at the Big Grove B&B again, or recommend it to our friends.
