This motel was adequate but not fantastic. In saying that I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend, it's not that it was horrible, it's just that there is no shortage of accommodation options in Albury/Wodonga and this one, while fine, probably isn't the best of them all.

Staff were efficient but not overly welcoming. We inquired about restaurants that charge back and were strongly encouraged to try the adjoining Blazing Stump Hotel. One step in that place and we decided it wasn't for us (typical country hotel- dated decor, smelt like stale beer and cigarettes, pokies taking up about a third of the place). The only other option they gave us was O'Maille's which turned out to be fine. I was surprised that there was only two charge back options as I've stayed all over regional Victoria and have found that most places have 3-6 options. Breakfast-wise, we were not offered in room service, just told that breakfast is served in the Ember Room. This was ok but bare in mind that it closes at 8.30am on a weekday so you'll need to get up early. You'll also need to factor in that a cooked dish will take at least 20-25 minutes for them to prepare (and we were the only ones there!).

The room itself was nice, had modern furnishings and was quite large. I had a comfortable king size bed with lots of pillows. There's a big plasma tv mounted on the wall directly opposite and a desk and couch. The basic kitchen and bathroom let down the rest of the room as they seemed a little dated. Unfortunately, I had a room that faced onto the main road and as a result heard truck noises for most of the night. Either the guy in the room next to me was deaf or the soundproofing between the rooms isn't great, because I could hear his tv quite clearly.

The website and in-room information mentioned wireless internet but no prices or further information was listed. The motel had a strong focus on being environmentally friendly which I thought was good. While the stay was satisfactory, I'm not left raving about the place. Next time I stay in Wodonga I'll probably try somewhere else.

MotelManagerWodonga, Manager at Blazing Stump Motel and Suites, responded to this reviewResponded September 19, 2010

Thank you for your review, we would like to respond that through our upgrade of our suites, were have been rated 4.5 STAR with AAA Tourism and also become finalist in the Victorian State Tourism Awards in 2009 and achieved International Comfort Hotel of the Year 2010 finalist through dedication and service to our guests.

The Blazing Stump Hotel, whilst named the same is a seperate entity and is suggested due to it's proximity and convenience for our guests. We understand that this is also being refurbished in the coming future and remains a largely visited venue by our regular corporate clientele.

Breakfast is no longer cooked to order and offers a wide variety of buffet options for faster service to our guests. Wireless internet is complimentary with the password being obtained at reception.

There was a mention that trucks could be heard from your suite, however all suits facing the road have had comfort glazing (noise reduction) in all windows.

We have added some new images to show the new upgraded suites and trust that next time you stay with us you will see some fantastic new changes.

Comfort Inn & Suites Blazing Stump remains the only 4.5 STAR environmentally friendly motel in Wodonga and is ONE of ONLY THREE 4.5 STAR properties in Albury Wodonga.

Stayed in the 2 br room, clean, neat, quiet and roomy. There was space for us to be able to lock our trailer so we didn't have to cart it around for the days we were there. We were accidentally charged double our cost by visacard, staff were apologetic and we were sent a chq refund in the mail within the week.
It is near the army barracks where there is a fabulous museum well worth visiting.

Comfort Inn & Suites Blazing Stump is located just on the edge of Wodonga. The unit we stayed in was very clean, well appointed. The staff were very helpful and there was no road or other noise. We had breakfast in our room and the servings were huge, more bacon than I could eat.

The motel is located along side the Hotel complex with a Bistro. The food was pub style but good size portions and quite tasty. The kids we saw seemed to enjoy it and there was a games room so parents could have a chat without interruption.

Overall a good place to stay overnight if your traveling.

Stayed overnight at Blazing Stump on our way to Melbourne from the Blue Mountains. Room was large and roomy! King size bed in the priemer room. Amenities were nice, However since it was Easter they closed down the pool early. Still had the option to use the Sauna and exercise room. Was a nice and quiet, out of the way place to stay for the night. Good room for the price!

Had a childrens pool and playground as well.

Travelling from Sydney to Mt Hotham to ski with our family - 4 adults, two children, we booked adjoining rooms at the Blazing Stump in Wodonga.

Good large rooms, excellent showers, good beds, very quiet rooms and airconditioning. Staff were very helpful when we asked for cereal bowls and spoons for the morning. Excellent value by booking direct, great military rate. The walls were painted white rather than the dreary brick walls found everywhere in Australia.

We had dinner at the pub adjoining the Blazing Stump, waiting an hour for our meals to arrive, and almost worth the wait, wonderful food. The place was full of young families and it's obviously the place to have a good meal in Wodonga.

We hit the road the next morning feeling refreshed and ready for the best snow ever!
