Punthill Williamstown

Stayed 1 sunday night and had a brilliant sleep. Was well jet lagged so just needed a place to sleep before work.
This hotel was just the ticket.
Nice and clean and quiet with superior fittings.
Defo would stay here again and recommend to others.

I have just stayed one night at Punthill apartments in Williamstown. They are in a great loaction to shops, cafes, restaurants and only a shortish drive to the city. The night cost $165 including free parking and a good hot breakfast and buffet for an extra $20. I had a studio room on the side and although it had no real view it was spotless, comfortable (great bed) and excellent shower. Staff where very friendly. I can highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front

We had a two day training course at the Strand in Williamstown so this was the logical choice for accomodation being two doors up.

The lady on the front desk was very helpful and pleasent and although she admitted that she had only been in Melbourne for 4 days you could tell that she had done a lot of research on the local area. Only piece of information she did not get quite right was which was the closest station but when I found out the Williamstown Beach Station was a lot closer then Williamstown north you could tell that she was grateful for the advice for future reference.

The main thing I liked about the property was the size and comfort of the rooms. This is the sort of place you could stay for a month and is fully contained with kitchen and laundry facilities in the room. The other thing I found particularly good was the comfort of the beds. Rooms were all very clean.

Williamstown is not walking distance to Melbourne CBD the train ride into the city seemed to take a lot longer than the geographical distance would suggest. But the actual location is lovely. The hotel is very close to the waterfront with views across the bay to the city. Along the foreshore there is lots of places to eat and drink. We took a punt and went to Customs House for a meal and it was very pleasant. I am sure the other places would be all of high standards and everywhere had plenty of people dining which I take as a good sign.

Williamstown is a good option for those with a car and no real need to be in the city. Also if you do drive into the city there are no toll roads.

Very clean and comfortable. The Punthill apartments were just as advertised and a very good location. This is the best pick for accommodation in the Williamstown area, ahead of Quest and miles ahead of the dismal Amawind apartments which are not as advertised.

Thank-you Punthill for providing good quality accomodation in this wonderful location.

Room Tip: A room in the upper floors is quieter

Stayed here in October for three nights (for free, so I can't really complain) with a friend who was on a work trip.

Slept on the fold out sofa bed - or tried to sleep. So very uncomfortable, in the end, on the third day - I had the 'mattress' on the floor with the couch cushions under it to make it comfortable enough to get four hours sleep..!

Apartment was clean / modern enough, good size with a balcony on the second floor. Could see it was done on the cheap however - coffee table with a broken leg, sofa bed leg hanging off, mold inside door of the washing machine. Some aspects quite odd - fridge next to the wall, but the door opened the wrong way and poor lighting in the bathroom (not well thought out renovations or planning).

Cleaners cleaned daily and well and left ample towels every time (seemed like overkill, as we didn't ask for anything to be laundered, left nothing on the floor/in the bath).

Reception was not manned the whole weekend we were there, but are a phone call away. Organised a taxi for the next day no hassles. I walked out Sunday morning and no one was at the desk to say good bye or ask if I needed to check out.

Location for Williamstown was close to shops, restaurants and the boat marina / port... Gorgeous view of Melbourne across the bay. Bottle shop next door. Great variety of restaurants and cafes. But after a day, there is really nothing to do in Williamstown other than eat.

If you are travelling alone and have the time (probably 1 1/2 hours), catch the Skybus to / from the airport and train to / from Williamstown, because the cost will be less than a taxi, usually $65 - $70. The train station (Williamstown Beach) is probably the closest station, but will be a good 10 min walk thru suburbs to the apartments.

My recommendation is to stay in Melbourne and head here on a day trip to eat for cheaper than Melbourne, look at a pretty view and get away from the hussle and bussle of the city.

Make sure you check out Poppi and Pippa's for some lovely jewellery and the Thai restaurant on Nelson for some well priced and yummy food :)

Room Tip: Main street isn't very busy at night, rooms on the front with balcony were quiet enough

We stayed in one of the one-bedroom apartments at PuntHill Williamstown in mid October 2011 (extended weekend). The host and hostess (Gilbert & Sylvia) were very friendly and went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. There was an issue with the heating/AC system of the apartment (we were informed by the management prior to our arrival) but provided us with a satisfactory solution (and free breakfast!). Apartment was almost new, very clean, with every thing what we needed (Kitchenette, large TV in the lounge and then a wall mounted TV in the bedroom). Everything is immaculate and it was a pleasure to stay there. Great location – close to the waterfront (The Strand), restaurants and also to the North Williamstown railway station (10 min walk).

Overall a good experience, plenty of parking in the basement, a bit of a hassle having to use your room card each time you operate the lift but a good form of security.
The big glass door in our room was a bit off square with the frame and allowed a cold draft to enter the room at the bottom corner.
Room was modern and well appointed with a good sized bathroom.
Great location within easy walking distance to all the cafes and restaurants.
