“Old and tired”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

We stayed at Stephanies for two nights recently, looking forward to a weekend of "luxury". However, we were very disappointed to find the house very tired and run down. The "courtyard" that was attached to our room was small, covered on all sides by trellis that made it quite poky. The seats and table needed paint and the plants very uncared for. Inside there were cobwebs above the bath, wallpaper peeling, and cracks in the walls. The hosts were very friendly, but we learnt that they have sold the property to developers who intend to demolish the house - this probably explains why maintenance has been let go. At $200 per night we expected more. This one definately didn't live up to our expectations.

Room Tip: Perhaps choose the room without a courtyard.

My partner and I stayed at Stephanies in August this year, as I was celebrating my birthday and having booked a big family celebration at a local Williamstown Restaurant (Remvi) I thought this would be an ideal place to stay as we always try to stay where we get breakfast included. I made the booking over the internet and also checked out the photos on their offical website, and they did make the place look very pretty. It is quite deceving as the rooms are within the old house and have a central hallway. Car parking is quite limited as well (you wouldnt want to bring an extra car etc) Upon first inspection, my partner asked me if I had paid for the room - which I told him I had in advance as he wanted to leave and go find somewhere else to stay - He clearly was not impressed with the accommodation and I had to ask him not to talk to the owner to voice his dissapointment.
We had the bridal suite which did look lovely at first but on closer inspection (put my glasses on) the room was in need of a revamp and the bathroom had an uneven floor and over all looked like it had been done up years ago and needs a revisit. The bed was comfy and linen clean. Room was clean. Breakfast was the only bright point of the stay (this I could not fault) everything cooked to your preference.

Room Tip: Bed is comfy and Breakfast is great !

As an owner of a Bed and Breakfast its great to hear that your beds are comfy and have clean sheets. It's also good to hear that Breakfast was perfect!
So as far as Bed and Breakfast is concerned I think we rate rather well, don't you?
It is always good to get feedback on issues that are not pleasing, for example there were not a lot of car spaces: We have 7 rooms and provide 7 off-street car spaces with security lighting. As well as this we also have 3 on-street spaces under an enormous security light that costs us $60 per month, this lights the parking up like daylight and allows anyone with a second vehicle to park with some security.
On our website we describe this beautiful old Victorian Home of Grand proportions with many current and up-to-date pictures including several of our "Hallway" that takes you to your room. This Hallway is decorated with antique furniture, is always adequately lit and provides sufficient privacy between rooms.
The Bridal suite is one of four rooms in the original 100 year old building. We do have issues with the floors in that they are not perfectly level, however after a complete re-blocking in 2006 the floors are really very very sturdy with no discernible movement .
Other features in our Bridal suite include a King mattress in antique brass bed, gas log fire, very private undercover courtyard, large corner spa in en-suite (endless supply of high pressure hot water), large flat screen TV with DVD and some beautiful antique furniture. It is a very "pretty" room, used recently in the filming of an Australian mini series as well as the back drop for a final year photography student presenting her final, major project.
For anyone wishing to experience a traditional night out in a romantic Bed and Breakfast this is the perfect room.
Cheers, Philip Merifield (Stephanie's Husband and breakfast cook!)

From the time we arrived until the time we departed Stephanie was the perfect hostess. The room we had was very clean and tidy. Stephanie organized a taxi for us, arriving on time. Breakfast was very good with the orange juice perfect. We would recommend this place and would happily return at a later date. Patricia and Noel Burwood

My husband and I recently spent a Saturday night in this delightful House. We had a spacious Queen room up the front ( which I think was one of the lowest priced rooms). And i was very happy with the lovely Queen bed, and its white linen. There was a electric blanket which we didnt need,as the room was warm enough with the heating. Very quiet location even though it is on a main street, and only a short walk to all the resturants. The breakfast is served in a lovely sunroom at the front of the house overlooking a lovely garden. If you come away hungry after brekky it is your own fault, you even get fresh orange juice and a cappuccino. The very friendly owner was there to greet us and also at breakfast and could not have been more helpful, telling us what was going on around town, and a few places suitable for our evening meal. A great place to stay will certainly be recommending it to anyone for a relaxing night away.

Room Tip: All rooms would be suitable, some rooms are much bigger than others , depending on your needs ( do...

Owner unfriendly and officious when checking in. No lounge, no outdoor area except veranda facing street. Room nice, air con worked well thank goodness. About 30 mins walking distance from town centre.

Room Tip: Room at front noisiest as faces street and opposite dining room.

My husband and I booked one night after a trip to Tasmania. We had a lovely room with a closed in deck. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic. Both Stephanie and her husband go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. This level of service is hard to find.

We spent two nights at Stephanie's and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful old heritage building with lots of original features. Spacious rooms, spotlessly clean, enormous king bed plus all the mod cons, large tv and wireless internet. Breakfast served in the breakfast room each morning. Extremly quiet location, didn't realize we were staying with other guests. Easy access to all Williamstown restaurants or take the nearby strain to the city.
Will be back.

Room Tip: Check out the photosnon the website, they are exactly the same as the rooms, no hidden surprises.
