Arrived early at Straits Cafe (Wantirna South) for dinner on Saturday night - just as well as this place gets very busy (on Saturday night). We had Lobak for appetizer (chicken rolls wrapped in beancurd skin lightly fried) - very good. Also the Murtabak and Curry main dish (beef rendang) - a good portion for one person, and just enough for two to share without eating too much. The murtabak was very nice - the best we have had, even if it was a little different.

[We had murtabak in Singapore's Little India recently, and it was rather dry and tasteless, and had another at the Taste of Singapore restaurant in Clayton which was not bad but a little greasy. The murtabak here at Straits Cafe was a smaller one, and looked like it had been cooked in a dish (with rounded corners) with a bottom pastry and a top pastry, and a delicious minced meat filling - very nice.]

We were very pleased with the service, the friendly and helpful staff, and the food. And there are daily specials listed up on the inside wall with lots of Malay special dishes. Can't wait to go back again.

Straits Cafe Wantirna South opens for dinner at 5pm. We got a table for two on arrival (after 5:30pm); and when we left soon after 6pm it was full with a short queue waiting for tables (and many customers are Asian) - suggesting that this is a good venue.

This is the sister café to the original one in Doncaster, newer and a bit more spacious.

The menu is quite similar but there are some differences. You’ll definitely find basic staples like Char Kueh Teow, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak, Curry Laksa, Assam Laksa, KL Hokkien Char Mee, Penang Har Mee and Sar Hoh Fun. Their Char Tung Hoon, Lobak and Satay are also pretty good. At weekends they prepare specials as well. In particularly we like their Poh Piah.

Definitely a place to enjoy a quick and delicious lunch in a neat and clean environment.

Just had quick stop here with a friend for lunch while we were in the area. Full of Malaysian people eating the food so this is a good sign. Small menu so not a lot of variety and not expensive. Food was tasty, very quick to make and excellent service. Was cash only too. Worth a try so give it a go.
