Stayed here for one night in October at the end of doing the Great Ocean Road. Basically the room is one end of Judy's house (with private entrance). It is wonderfully designed and equiped and very very comfortable. There are books and DVDs in the room (a great selection) and the bathroom is excellent. What may not be to everyone's liking is the fact that you do not get served breakfast. However Judy gave us the most fantastic variety of food for breakfast - cereal, english muffins, bread, yoghurt, fresh fruit etc etc (there is a fridge and microwave in the room). In fact there was so much we had some the evening before to go with our take-out pizza! The breakfast thing did not worry us at all and in fact was probably more convenient for us. Judy is a lovely lady and, having missed us when we left the next day, emailed to ensure that everything was ok. I would certainly go back again.

This is a wonderful B&B. It's a couple of kms out of Torquay, so you do need a car. However, Judy the owner was a wonderful host, making us feel right at home. The B&B is just the one room at the side of Judy's home. It has it's own outside space and is completely self contained. The facilities are great and the room is really clean and comfortable. Judy had the room extremely well stocked for us in terms of our breakfast and a welcoming afternoon brownie with fresh strawberries! Fresh bread from the local bakery, local jam and numerous other items meant we could make ourselves a wonderful breakfast (and more) at a time that suited us! Highly recommended.

We stayed at Torquay Toongahra B&B for one night in October as part of a driving tour in the Grampians and the Great Ocean Road. Our rating can't help but be influenced by the three previous nights in absolutely wonderful B&Bs along the way. This one, by comparison, was totally adequate - but nothing special. The location is pretty remote, in the outskirts of Torquay on the inland side. This is good, because it is very quiet. The room is good sized - really a small efficiency apartment on the side of the house. Everything was reasonably clean and comfortable - though maybe slightly musty (didn't bother us, but someone very sensitive might notice). Our hostess greeted us warmly, then showed us our breakfast: some store-bought breads and cereals, tea bags and powdered coffee, plus some eggs and a set of instructions on how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave (!). Then she requested payment and said goodbye, saying it was more convenient that way; we wouldn't have to find her in the morning. Really, this was OK with us, but it was a bit of a let down after some of the friendly hosts and fabulous breakfasts we had just experienced. This B&B would be ideal for those who just want to be left alone in a quiet, rural setting. For us, it was an OK place to spend the night, that's all.

Hi BethesdaT Thanks for your review and although disappointed that you did not find everything quite as you expected we are pleased you liked the setting, spaciousness and comfort. Our apologies if you noticed a hint of mustiness, we clean the room with care for each stay and can only think it may have related to the exterior painting earlier in the week at the rear of the en suite. We can find no trace of it now.
I am so glad you felt welcomed and of course I would have been happy for you to settle the account with me in the morning, I try to make it easier for single night guests Our popularity is usually because of the private room and courtyard with its’ separate entrance so people can enjoy their stay without disturbance. I always offer my availability with the bell direct to our part of the house for any assistance and my mobile no. in case I am outside of the house.
The range of breakfast provisions grew over time beyond our fresh fruit bowl, tomato, selection of cereals, local jams and honey, yoghurt, juice, milk, two choices of fresh breads, range of teas and coffees to also include the option of cooking baked beans and our own fresh eggs to give even more than the a continental breakfast. Although not ideal for all, the microwave fits with our type of set up avoiding cooking odours and mess in the room and we differ from some Bed and Breakfast places where you sit within the host’s house for a full cooked breakfast or a place with a separate kitchen. Thanks again for your feedback. Judy.

Toongahara is a superb BnB, and is the perfect place to start/finish a trip along the marvellous Gretzky Ocean Road. It is located just outside Torquay, but close enough to the town to enjoy the amenities. The accommodation is private and well appointed, with a great array of breakfast items. Jury, the owner, could not have been more helpful and friendly.
Unreservedly recommended!

This was the best bed and breakfast/sevice apt/hostel lodging we have stayed in so far (and we have had our share of accomodation throughout Europe and Asia). We stayed there in Dec 2011 but it was the best bed and breakfast we experienced so we felt it deserved a review. The location is out of the way and you need a car, but if you have a car and GPS, this is definitely the place to stay. It has one spacious washroom, one couch, a queen size bed, a small kitchenette (no stove/cooker though) with a microwave, utensils and free wifi. It is hosted by Judy who is a lovely host with a keen eye for detail. She provided us with lots of breakfast food, eggs, juice, marmite, jam, fruits, bread, and much more. There were flowers and cookies to greet us in the apartment and Judy even provided us with a summer dune as she felt we might not be used to the chilly climate coming from Singapore. Judy also prepared a thick file with travel information to the nearby areas for sightseeing. The apartment had books, videos and some card games. There is a door bell button and when we needed help, we could just ring it and Judy would come to help us. we did use it on some occasions and Judy was always prompt, helpful, kind and smiling. The apartment is a section of Judy's house just sharing a wall with the main house. It is rather private and self contained. Overall, it was the best bed and breakfast we have stayed at with our travels spanning Europe and Asia. If we visit the Great Ocean Road again, there is no doubt we will stay here again.

Unfortunately for 1 night only... we really missed it after !! We were not so used to the prices in Australia, and at the beginning we found it a little bit expensive. But after 3 weeks and different B&B, Motel, hotels,... It appears that Toonghara was our BEST SPOT.
In the room you have EVERYTHING you need :
- bedroom with confortable bed, pillow, night tables and books
- large TV and DVD player and a nice collection of DVDs available
- living room (same room actually than room, but like 2 spaces) : sofa, table for 2, nice flowers, DOucmentatioN about Torquay and the surroundings
- kitchen : you have everything you need to cook (kettle, microwave, dishes,...). The goods available for the breakfast were generous and so good (the jam and honey...mmm!!). It was the best breakfast we had.
- bath room : any products you will need is there and of good quality.
Not to mention that the all is decorated in good taste, trendy but not too much. Very Cosy.
And Judy is very nice and available anytime.
Just perfect for RELAXING night or week end.
