Chez Olivier is a delightfully cosy French restaurant with a great atmosphere and really good staff! The food was lovely and presented beautifully, however I think that it was possibly a bit overpriced for what it was. We had a range of meals and everyone was very happy with their choices.

We went with friends and had a really good night, but it probably wouldn't be somewhere that we're rushing back to.

Went there for dinner mid week, the menu is very comprehensive and had all the French classics, the French onion soup was fantastic and the boulibaise was very authentic and lived up to my expectations. The wine list was good and prices reasonable. Recommend a visit there n I will be going back next time in Melbourne

Fantastique…& other words ending with 'ique'… The food, however, was far from eek. I had the rillettes traditionelle, followed by a marvellously tender duck confit. My companions ordered the coquilles st jacques, the french onion soup & the tartare for starters. The oooooh moment of the mains was my friend's puff pastry encased beef bourguignon, but the wow moment was the flaming crepes.
Love the French accents, & service was attentive, but far from overwhelming.

You are greeted in French. An excellent start. A full house means a visibly frantic but well meaning waitstaff.

The bisque is worth a try, but you must love the taste of prawn or lobster heads- which I do.

The goat cheese soufflé won the entree prize. The charcuterie plate is lovely but not a cracker or bread in sight. Hard going when you have a ramekin of pate and a single gherkin to spread it over.

As for main, go the steak with truffled mash. The twice cooked duck was cooked one too many times and was a little dry. The duck l'orange could be a bit more orange flavoured. But who am I kidding? - are you ever going to cook this stuff yourself? No. So enjoy.

When you go French , you have high expectations, higher than you might have if you are going to eat at say, an Italian restaurant. Chez Olivier does well given that it is constantly viewed with these high expectations.
