“Lovely place to stay”
Reviewed April 2, 2009

I thoroughly enjoyed the Prahran Village Guest House. The hosts were very gracious. The location is great. The room was very nice and clean with a balcony over looking the street. It was very quiet as well. You can easily walk to Chapel street from here or to a tram to go anywhere in the city.

We stayed for four nights in March 2009 and had a fantastic stay. These guys need a better website as the place totally surpassed our expectations. We felt very welcome, the place felt more like a small cosy 5 star hotel than a guest house. Breakfast was very enjoyable and the location is ideally situated for easy access into the CBD, Prahran train station is 5 mins walk away. Also close to Chapel Street and South Yarra area. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

We chose this place based on other recommendations which were dead on. Great place, great location, probably the best place we stayed on our trip. The room was nice, breakfast in the morning quite ample and good. Wireless access and even a computer downstairs for guest use. It's only a couple blocks from the Prahran train station which can get you to most places in Melbourne quickly and easily. We had street parking which was relatively easy to get even on the weekend. There's even a bar next door (which wasn't loud).

The images of this property available on line don't do it justice- The hotel is simply wonderful- I left feeling relaxed and looking forward to coming back some day and recommending it to friends in the mean time.

The 4 guest rooms are added on to the upstairs of the main house, so they're brand new- (think- good insulation, A/C, luxury carpets and bath fittings). The whole place is impeccably maintained, with a nice mix of modern and warm wooden furniture.

There's an intimate living room to hang out and read and a dining area for breakfast.

With Shane and David, it seems like no expense is spared to make customers feel welcomed- buscuits for tea, complimentary water in the fridge, thick towels in the bathroom. Even the china is a cut above the rest. I really appreciate luxury touches like this. Not even the Westin and other high end hotels can compare to the warm and cozy atmosphere of a guest house, so for a personal trip, it's the best of both worlds.

Oh did I mention, the GREAT water pressure in the shower and complementary WiFi internet?

As has already been mentioned by other reviewers, the proximity to nightlife is great- cafes, bars, restaurants and shopping on Chapel street, and a short train ride from Prahran to Flinders Street to get you in the heart of the city.

Other info: It's gay friendly and in a quiet residential street, so not a lot of street noise. You can also request a room at the back of the house which overlooks the back garden. Free sttreet parking is available at weekends, and during the week you can request a parking permit.

We arrived late at night after a 24h long flight from London to a friendly welcome from Shane.

The house has been cleverly converted from a one-storey shell into a luxurious two-storey B&B. All the guest accommodation on the top floor and is a stylish blend of slightly Victorian style with all mod-cons, including air conditioning.

Our room had a king bed, refrigerator, and an ensuite modern limestone bathroom with jacuzzi bath, walk-in shower and WC. We also had a balcony which was shared with the other room at the front of the house.

Continental breakfast - with the best coffee and orange juice in Australia - is served in the dining hall downstairs or on a private patio at the front of the building. (This can get very warm.)

The location is convenient for Prahran station with direct trains for the 10 min trip to central Melbourne and a short stroll from Chapel Street with its restaurants, bars and shops. Trams to St Kilda beach are also nearby but a brisk 20 min walk will also get you there.

On Christmas Eve, we found we'd been left delicious chocolates in our room.

David and Shane are to be congratulated on a very professional and comfortable operation.

  • Liked — Decor and the owners
  • Disliked — There was sometimes a little noise from the street, but it was not intrusive.

What a find! My husband and I stayed at the Prahan Village Guest House in August 2008 and we were delightfully surprised by the classiness of this boutique B & B. It is conveniently located 2 blocks back from Chapel Street, which has an extraordinary range of restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping.

We stayed in the Queen Room with a balcony, which had a lovely street view. I am one fussy traveller and cleanliness is my biggest priority. I am pleased to say that our room was very clean. However, I am disappointed to have to say that the sheets were not up to standard. Whilst they were clean and it was obvious they had been washed, they were covered in other people's body hair! I would suggest the owners employ an industrial washing service rather than attempt to wash the sheets themselves. Despite the sheets (and crumbs where the tea and coffee facilities were) I have to say that the other features impressed me so much that I forgot about the sheets. The entire B & B is very stylishly decorated - modern and elegant, with all the mod cons, such as flat screen plasma television, reverse cycle heating / air conditioning. The bathrooms are also gorgeous and the shower was divine - a lovely big shower head.

The continental breakfast was lovely - a large variety of cereals, breads, pastries and fresh fruit. We were both very impressed - and thoroughly enjoyed our fresh cappacinos. The attention to detail of this B & B is very impressive and the hosts are lovely - very warm and welcoming.

I would definitely stay here again - its proximity to Chapel and Greville Streets is brilliant. 5 Stars.

  • Liked — The personal feel of the place, the elegant decor and attention to detail and its proximity to Chapel Street.
  • Disliked — That the sheets weren't clean and there were crumbs / hair in the tea / coffee making tray.

This is a cosy, luxury and gay friendly B&B in Melbourne. The room had it's own modern shower and free wireless internet. The hosts were friendly and offered a great continental breakfast with fresh squeezed orange juice and espresso coffee. The location is great - only a 10 minute walk to all the shops and dining on Chapel Street.
