“Fabulous location”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

We stayed just the one night on our way from Melbourne to Adelaide.

Oscars was a real find. A room overlooking the river was spacious, clean and had everything we needed.

A very warm welcome by Kirsten. Tea, coffee and home shortbread available for guests to help themselves, in the dining room overlooking the river.
A beautifully presented and spacious lounge is for guests use also.

A recommendation to The Stag Hotel for dinner was a superb choice!!

Breakfast menu was extensive and cooked to order and could be taken out to the veranda to eat in the sunshine.

We shall certainly return.

On arriving at Oscars we were immediately warmly welcomed; the hotel has a relaxed, elegant atmosphere and overlooks the Moyne River. When I booked I asked for a room with a view of the river and marina but unfortunately on arrival this was not the case which was slightly disappointing as they knew we were international guests and won't easily be coming back any time soon. The rooms are large and well furnished, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast the next morning was enjoyable. We were really able to relax infront of a fire downstairs in the main lounge while enjoying complimentary coffee and delicious shortbread.

Overall a good stay, but there were some things that disappointed me, especially when paying a premiun rate and staying in a luxuary boutique hotel. The toilteries were Molton Brown but they only provided one small Shampoo and Conditioner between two people, no shower gel or body lotion. There are also no dressing gowns. Small things I know, but they make the difference.

Enjoyed it, but don't think it met my expectations so walk away with mixed feels.

We first found Oscars by pure serendipity on our first drive along the Great Ocean Road and determined then that we must return. Three years later it just as delightful an experience as it first was.

The Riverfront Suite looks over the Moyne River, at that point a relatively narrow body of water. On the opposite riverbank small fishing boats sort and fillet their catch, tossing the offcuts into the river where the resident seals must be among the best fed aquatic mammals anywhere. From the sunny outdoor lounge along the front of Oscars, with a good bottle of wine and a book, we enjoyed hours happily watching the moored boats, strollers along the riverside boardwalk and the frolicking seals.

Originally the Belfast Ice and Cold Storage Company, Oscars Waterfront Boutique evolved over the last twelve or so years from its initially modest adaptation of the ice company premises to B&B suites, into its present luxuriously furnished and equipped main building and charming rear cottage suites. The scale of the building, its upstairs suites and its guest lounge and dining spaces is imposing, indeed. Married to the enveloping warmth and generosity of the management, the experience is outstanding.

Breakfast at Oscars is the same grand dining event we remembered: the large, elegant dish of poached pears in deliciously spiced juices; lusciously creamy local yoghurt; a cereal blend that is probably another house signature; and a choice of dishes, of which even the heartiest is delivered in elegant arrangement and individually cooked to order. With the morning sun beaming into the breakfast room, as we stretch our now relaxing travellers’ legs, we wish we could stay forever.

Room Tip: The Riverfront Suite, at the top of the stairs, is delightful.

Stayed a night at this idyllic boutique hotel on our great ocean road trip. A perfect stop and a great atmosphere. This beautiful house and friendly hosts made our weekend complete and can only recommend it to couples that want to give a little extra for something special.

This hotel is lovely. It's a few blocks from town, so nice to stroll into town, especially on Saturday morning, to the market. The room itself was nice. The fire place with a light switch starter is so easy!! And has additional heater/air con for back up. The bathroom has very little space to put your wet pack (even more so when there are two of you!!), there are no rugs or mats on the titled floor, which is freezing during the colder months. There is no place to hang your coats, a coat hook near the door would be ideal. There is no complimentary water, or still water that I could find in the room. And no body lotion, or liquid soap. I am a liquid soap fan, so I noticed such a minor detail. Breakfast was served in the main house and was wonderful! The muesli was delicious served with warm poached pears and yoghurt. As well as a cooked breakfast on order. It was really good and a big portion- yummy! I would recommend this hotel.

I have always wanted to go there and it fulfilled all our expectations. We had a river view room. It was a large room with a very comfortable bed and delightful furnishings. The cooked breakfast included their own freshly baked bread. Delicious. On supply all day were coffee and tea facilities with the best shortbread I have ever tasted. It was baked there as well. We will be going there in November for an occasion. The shortbread alone is worth going for. It is more than delicious. After a horrifying experience in Cobden this made up for it. Perhaps we were meant to go there.

Room Tip: As Oscar's is very popular, I think you are lucky to get any room. I have not seen all the room...

We just got back from our holiday in Port Fairy. It is a stunning place and this hotel is beautiful inside and out!
We stayed in a riverfront room. It was spacious and clean. The view was lovely.

As guests are adults it is very quiet and relaxing. It is in a fantastic location and walking distance to the main street as well as a number of tourist attractions.

Breakfast was provided during a limited period of time during the morning but that didn't really bother us as it encouraged us to get up and explore the town (we like to sleep in). The food was yum.

The staff were very polite and professional.

Would highly recommend staying here!

Room Tip: Pick a riverfront room so you get a wonderful view of the river.
