“Overnight Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014

Conveniently situated at the end of the town this hotel is attractive, comfortable and good value at circa £90 per night (without breakfast). Accommodation is modern and very clean. Friendly reception staff.
Restaurant is closed on Monday nights. We dined at Portofino on Bank - See report on TA

Dear David2Cornwall

Thank you for your 5 star Tripadvisor review; our team are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us. I'm happy that you liked our large, modern rooms and excellent location in the heart of the CBD.

Our restaurant, the Stag is closed on Sunday's and Mondays however we are currently in the process of securing other restaurants services so we can offer room service delivery 7 days per week.

Thank you again and kind regards,

Justin

We were greeted by the male manager who was very off hand. Said we had booked a cheap room and were we aware we had a shared bathroom. I said we were travelling for 3 months so could not remember exactly what I had booked. He did not smile or offer any other info on hotel. We went to our room which could be described as nothing other than a single room with adouble bed in! the double was pushed against the wall and when the suitcase was in all the floor space was full. We had room 8. All the photos on agoda show larger rooms which are rooms 7 and 11. We found a small sitting room with 4 chairs in and a fridge toaster and kettle even though we weren't told there was one. when I returned to reception and the lady manager was there i asked if there was more than one shower and 1 toilet for the 10 rooms and she said no!! again with no warmth.
The soap in the small shower/toilet had run out at the hand basins. We met Maryann the following morning who was very friendly and should probably be front of house as she had people skills.
The building was lovely, restaurant closed as it was monday and our experience could have been so much nicer if the managers seemed like they wanted to be there and welcomed people.
Other guests staying also had the same issues as us.
Not what we expected from a comfort inn or what the hotel advertised. It was not cheep at £56 a night and we have stayed in hostels a lot cheaper with bigger rooms and an ensuite for cheaper.
The owners need to talk to management on people skills

Room Tip: get room 7 or 11

Dear eyam

Thank you for taking the time to review Seacombe House on Tripadvisor.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience at our hotel and would like to take this opportunity to apologise. The majority of the time we offer excellent service and I am disappointed that on this occasion we let you down.

I will however pass your comments on to Marianne - she will be pleased about your compliments.

The property is made up of three sections - the heritage listed Seacombe House, the Cottages and the Comfort Inn. We are lucky to be able to offer many options from the historical rooms, through to the modern corporate style suites and romantic cottages, all in the heart of Port Fairy's CBD.

Seacombe House where you stayed has a number of the small original rooms in the heritage part of the hotel and due to heritage restrictions we were unable to extensively modify the building to add ensuites to these rooms. This adds to the character and history of the property and we have many regular guests who request these rooms for a unique experience that is not offered elsewhere.

There are two separate male and female bathroom areas which service these rooms. Where possible we offer the opportunity to upgrade to the larger rooms and suites in the complex.

I would like the opportunity to discuss this further. Please contact me at the hotel at your convenience.

Kind regards,

Justin

We left our 5 children with a babysitter friend, and left happy for a spontaneous trip to Port Fairy.
We turned up around 9,30pm exhausted on a friday night. The chap we woke at the little office in the rear was extremely peeved, and clearly did not want us to be there. He even asked us to turn on the lights for him in the reception area. Ended up at the motor inn with exceptional service

Lovely big room (number 42)in a pretty building overlooking the car park and little garden. Nice furnishings in the room. All the amenities plus free wifi (ask for a voucher at the reception – valid for 2 hours use (not consecutive) and you can just ask for another one if you need it) - previous reviewers seem t have missed this?

Very clean and well appointed (though I did clean the fluff out of the vent in the hair dryer). Would prefer no mini bar, but if you like a well stocked one this is for you.

Great location, though Port Fairy is tiny so you cannot be far from anywhere.

Dear Geraldine L

Thank you for your good review of Seacombe House, I really appreciate your comments.

I am happy that you enjoyed our location - we are only about 5-10 minutes walk from anywhere in town, including beautiful Griffiths Island.

I will follow up with housekeeping n regards to the hair dryer. Oure room attendants are usually mecticulous, and I am disappointed they missed this. I have also noted on your file for next time you stay we will ensure the minibar is removed from your room.

Kind regards,

Justin

My wife and I spent two nights in Port Fairy following a drive from Melbourne via Apollo Bay where we stayed in an excellent modern B&B so arriving at an 'Olde Worlde Motel was a bit of a shock: thinking we were back in the UK. We soon got over this as our room no 43 was large, clean and cool. The facilities were good and with the high temperature outside were glad that the room was shaded as we could open the window for some fresh air and not just rely on the air conditioning. Whilst clean, the decor is a bit sombre, the word dowdy springs to mind but this implies something not quite up to scratch.this , however would be unfair. A bit of colour and certainly better lighter would help.
By mistake we had breakfast. Don't. It's not worth it as there are plenty of cafés a few hundred metres away. We didn't eat in the Stag restaurant which forms part of the facility but it looked quite good, choosing instead, 'L Edra (Italian ) and Merrijig Kitchen (modern Oz) as it meant we could take a stroll. The hotel is well located for the 'town' centre, wharf and beaches. My usual complaint on this trip, however, wifi is not free.there is a pleasant grass area in the courtyard with seating under a tree but why oh why allow cars to park on it?

Room Tip: For privacy avoid the cottages as they are on the street although the town is very quiet The modern...

Dear Geoff M

Thank you for your review on Seacombe House and Comfort Inn; I really appreciate your time to provide feedback on our hotel.

I am really happy that you enjoyed our location and garden areas. At times of high occupancy we allow cars to park on the grassed section - believe it or not originally this was a part of the horse stables and guests used to park their horses there overnight!

The hotel is comprised of several different buildings; Seacome House was built in 1847 and has been tastefully decorated in period style with modern touches. The Comfort Inn is a modern property with large spacious rooms.

The room you stayed in 43 has been extensively refurbished since you stayed; we would love you to come back and have a look.

I am disappointed that you did not enjoy breakfast. I will follow up with the staff on the day to see how we could have improved your experience.

Thank you again and kind regards,

Justin
