“Nice & relaxing stay at The Coastal Barn”
Reviewed February 16, 2009

We stayed 3 nights in the Studio at The Coastal Barn. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by Rita (the host). The interior decoration was very nice. Comfortable queen bed. Amazing shower (big enough for two) and a romantic bath tub with candles. Although not beach front, the location was great. A short walk to 'Pea Soup' - a really pretty beach. It's also a short drive to the town centre (quite a few great restaurants), Griffith Island (beautiful walk) and TIme & Tide Cafe (a must for the best lunch and afternoon tea!). The cook-your-own breakfast baskets were fabulous. We had different breakfasts each morning and the portion was more than enough for two.

The only downside was that our room was on ground floor and there was another room upstairs. We could hear people upstairs walking so we had to wake up earlier than we intended to due to the noise. Overall, it was a really nice place with a fabulous host in a pretty little town of Port Fairy.

  • Liked — decoration, comfort, big shower/ bath tub
  • Disliked — noise from upstairs

After much searching for affordable accommodation in Port Fairy I came across the website for the Coastal Barn B & B. My husband and I stayed here on a recent trip along the Great Ocean Road, and had heard much about the town.

We found the B & B excellent. The accommodation is housed in a purpose-built building separate from the main residence. We were housed in the Studio on the ground floor. It was a beautifully appointed open-plan room containing a comfy bed, sitting area, dining area and full kitchen. The bathroom was huge with separate tub and shower, and separate toilet (always a welcome feature!).

The room is nicely furnished in cool green tones. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, and lavish breakfast ingredients are provided including bacon, eggs, fresh bread (not standard bread, proper bread), fruit, juice, cereals and coffee/tea. It is extremely spacious for two people with plenty of room for luggage.

And the bathroom! It is very good sized with a glassed in shower, separate tub tiled in cool green tiles with nifty recesses with candles and such, modern basin with large sink and plenty of space for toilet bags and the toilet tucked away in it's own separate room with another basin. Heaven! I had a long soaky bath with lots of bubbles and was very happy. Tub is definitely built for two!

Service was very friendly and helpful. Booking was easy through the website, we found the owners responsive and easy to deal with. Owners were also forthcoming with restaurant recommendations and other helpful hints about the wee town.

The B & B is not far from town, but not right in town either. I walked to the main street and it took me about 15 minutes on quiet neighborhood streets. Driving takes all of 2 minutes.

I would certainly recommend this property to couples looking for good value and excellent facilities.
