Big room and comfortable beds. Very helpful staff with free access to computers. Actually in hotel not an apartment. We enjoyed two nights stay here. plenty of places to eat locally with various prices.

We took an apartment overlooking the sea on the first floor with two double bedrooms, a living area with kitchen, two bathrooms and a balcony complete with resident Cockatoo who was very friendly although we didn't feed him. Although well used the flat was perfect for the beach orientated stay and we were able to potter in and out from the beach without worrying about spoiling carpets or soft furnishings. An excellent guest laundry provided facilities for washing and ironing clothes, so useful when travelling, and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. It is not a five star hotel, it is a family beach resort and guests should not expect the former but as a beach resort it is really first class, in a nice seaside town with a fabulous surfing beach and some good restaurants - better than most in Australian seaside towns.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the beach.

My husband, sister in law and I travel to Lorne every Australia Day long weekend for a relaxing break. We decided to give the Mantra another chance having had numerous problems a couple of years ago with the room Well what a mistake. We booked a ocean view room for 3 adults and paid top dollar - no discount or online special price. Upon arrival in our room we noted there was no linen, or towels for the third person, so we rang reception to ask for it - you would think it would be in the room given you book for 3. Now the ocean view room we booked was very interesting and not what we expected, you could hear the ocean and unless you looked over the solid balcony wall standing up there was no sign of the ocean from any part of the room or balcony..ripped off big time! One of the blinds was broken and the dishwasher wasn't working, so we rang reception who said they would send someone with 30 mins. It was 2 hours and no one to be seen, so we rang reception again having to explain ourselves again. To cut a long story short, 2 more calls to reception, another person looking at the machine on day 2, at which point we were advised no one wold be able to fix it till Monday.....no good to us we were leaving on Monday after arriving on Friday and logging the problem then. They did provide us with free breakfast as an apology on day 2 and that was average too. They are fortunate their location is great but the lack of service, lack of maintenance of the rooms, lack of housekeeping (every 3 days) and lack of care for the customers comfort makes for an unpleasant, not relaxing stay and we will not be back - save your money and enjoy your stay somewhere else! That's what we will be doing.

Room Tip: If you book for ocean view, check beforehand to ensure you can see the ocean

This was the worst experience ever, first and last time and the room was so disgusting my husband and I checked out after 1 hour of checking in and went home.
I booked a night for my husbands birthday, sent an enquiry requesting an ocean view, didnt receive a response and was put in a room with the view of a worn dirty tin roof! The couch had filthy stains everywhere we couldn't sit on it, the blinds were covered on stains, marks all over the walls and the pots and pans were beyond filth. I called reception complained and was offered completely breakfast as they claimed they were at capacity and there was nothing else they could do.
We decided we couldn't stay in such a disgusting place as I'm pregnant and everything appeared unhygienic so I checked out. Receptionist apologized and took my number. As I booked via a last minute website Mantra refused to refund me although I am well aware it's up to the hotel but couldn't be bothered pushing the issue. Over an hour later I received a call from the hotel manager wanting more info and again I was told they couldn't have done anything because they were full. They wrecked our entire weekend.
I'm not exaggerating it was so terrible we lost the money we paid and drove back home to Melbourne where I know isn't riddled with stains. Don't be fooled by the smiles and apologies do yourself a favour and stay at Cumberland Resort I'm spewing I didn't stick with what I knew, I have never been disappointed there and haven't wanted to leave that place.

This Mantra is a disgrace and is due for a renovation.

Booked "ocean view" by phone, told by the person taking the booking that we had an "ocean view." Email confirmed "ocean view." Arrived at Mantra Lorne to discover that the much anticipated “ocean view” was nowhere to be seen. No view from the living room. Searched all over the balcony, couldn’t find it anywhere. No “ocean view” to be seen. Finally found the “ocean view” was at best a fleeting glimpse from the bedroom window.
We contacted reception where we spoke to the Manager on duty, and in her defence she did take some steps to solve the issue. Showed us a room with a strip of “ocean view,” but mostly it was “tennis court view” and “other building view.” Realising her idea and our idea of “ocean view” differed she suggested we could perhaps consider driving the 120km round trip to Apollo Bay in search of our “ocean view.”
If you take a booking for “ocean view,” make sure you have one to sell first. Ironically, the Manager gave us a $17 cheese platter to enjoy on the balcony as we enjoyed our view. She also shouted my wife and I breakfast on one of the mornings. Nice view from the restaurant.
Were their other issues? Yes, lots. All the other negative reviews I read were issues that I can personally concur with. Go there for the bed, yes. Go there for the location if you don’t want an “ocean view.” Sadly, I could find very little else that would bring me back.

Stayed 3 nights over the Australia Day Long weekend and was disappointed since our last stay 18 months earlier. The buffet breakfast was ordinary with wilted "so called" fresh fruit, which looks like it had been in the fridge for over a week and ordinary food. Upon arrival the bath was dirty and had to clean it before we could take a shower. The couch had pink lipstick stains on it and looked like it had not be cleaned for quite some time. Booked one night for dinner but after receiving the most disappointing cheese platter that afternoon $17 worth of air (2 barely noticeable pieces of cheese and a few scattered dry nuts) we decided to cancel and eat elsewhere. This is a fantastic location with great surroundings but we will not be returning unless the very tired looking rooms are updated and their food is vastly revamped.

Room Tip: Choose another location......

Good afternoon, thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. Your feedback is important to us and helps the management team better understand the current issues. Im pleased to advise that we have recently appointed a new Exec Chef who is committed to lifting the standard of the food and beverage offering. He is from a Peppers property and well known for innovative and fresh, locally sourced food. I will follow up with our Exec Housekeeper regarding the cleanliness issues and will look at ways of mitigating similar issues in the future. Thank you again for your comments. Kind regards, Clayton Thompson

Loved the location, didn't like the lack of car parking. We had a room at the back of the resort but the only carpark available was at the front near reception. A long walk dragging a suitcase! The room was nice but getting a bit dated. Cleaners had the only lift full of rubbish at 3.30 in the afternoon, so had to drag our bags up two flights of stairs.
Lovely place though, staff were helpful and friendly.

Hi Sharon, Thank you for your review. Im sorry that you felt the car parking was inadequate. When our occupancy is high we need to utilise additional car spots at the front of the resort. I will discuss the rubbish issue with our Executive Housekeeper and implement a procedure to ensure this issue is not repeated. Again thank you for your review. Kind regards, Clayton Thompson EAM
