Dismayed by reading stuff on other sites. But found it to be not so. The new German chef was on hols but the French sous chef was on his game, really excellent food. Wife had the quail risotto, I had the baby schnapper. French food on the beach as the moon rose over a genle ocean and pink sands, fantastic. Tasmanian Chardonnay, a wonderful French caramel dessert with a late picked something or other to wash it down... wonderful. Disclaimer: this review written after returning home from the restaurant... but what better time to write it? Not a budget meal, but a very memorable one. Go for it.

Went to the Lorne Beach Pavillion today (Tuesday ) and had a lovely, relaxed and tasty lunch . Seafood chowder was tasty, creamy and good value for 15 dollars. Good vibe around the place with smiling staff, waves and sunshine. I wil be back with my family shortly.

The coffee the first time and sea view was great unfortunately the waiter made a mistake with our order and the barista who made our coffee made us a undrinkable second cup of coffee, because we sent part of the order back because of the ordering mistake.
Remember we are only tourists.

It was as if there was a change of shift half way through our meal. We began with good bread, oil and butter and an amuse bouche which was unexpected and delicious. Our entrees were excellent and interesting as there is a new chef and the web menu has been superseded. A great start! Then we waited, and waited, and waited. The staff seemed a bit directionless, and had no information from the kitchen so just told us a few times that our mains were coming. Then finally they did. My lamb was totally overcooked and well below average, and the sous vide steak was a tasteless soft piece of meat, ruined. What a contrast.
I have high hopes for this place as the location is stunning, the prices are high, and the menu reads well, so the delivery needs to step up.

I just love the Lorne beach pavilion. They often have specials which we like to take advantage of. 2 courses for $40 or 3 for $49 including a glass of wine. The view is just amazing overlooking the coast. Last time we went, there was a beautiful rainbow over the lighthouse whilst we enjoyed mouthwatering pork belly for entree followed by a succulent chicken breast for main and finished with a cheese plate. Or table was right near their wood fire, just gorgeous. Can't wait to go back! It's only an hours drive along the coast from Geelong, a great little getaway!
