“2nd greatest place for steak!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

No doubt this is Melbournes 2nd best place for steak. Rockpool, to me will always hold that crown. But happy to bestow this restaurant with 2nd place.
The dining room is incredibly dated and not much has changed since i came here for the firs time about 20 years ago. But who cares about the kitchy surroundings when all your really here for is the steak.
I had a rather oily duck sausage for entree which i could have done without. Usually i would have the home made spiced chevapchichi which are just amazing. The steak as mentioned before are sublime and cooked with love. Shame you dont really get much choice for sides with the exception of fries and salad, and no sauces either, only mustards.
Our fries didnt arrive until after we finished the steak and as the place got busier we felt we were more of an inconvenience then a customer. Maybe they were just short staffed that night..
They also have an amazing wine list. Forgetr the little hiccups and go and try the steaks!! Thats an order !

“Gave it a try - didnt understand the hype”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Read all about it, heard all about it, friends love steak, so went along for the ride. Ho hum, uninspired choices, disinterested staff, tiny entree offering, at inflated prices. It was a great steak but everything else a little lazy in its execution and lacking in the delivery.
Especially when theres great places just down the road ( Estivo ), and theres Italian next door (Mister Bianco) and even good Thai further down the Hill (Saychol) - all a better experience - why would you bother with this? ....even steak can usually be made to interest and inspire, but not here. Also - Maybe they aren't too interested in serving tables with women at them, in this very male domain? Made to feel that if you are not a regular, what are you doing here.

“Great Steaks!”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Went here for dinner last night. The steaks we had were cooked to perfection, with an amazing flavour. Melted in your mouth. They serve salad to the table to share which was shredded cabbage with dressing which was nice but I found the dressing a bit overpowering, plus 1 Cos lettuce leaf each with a tasty dressing. The chips were great too. Overall a terrific meal & would definitely return.

“Carnivore ONLY”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Usually dinner time, but this time let's break the rule and do lunch.
Perfect combo to start, Stella Artois and 3 Sausages for entree; always well cooked and yum .... next Med Scotch Fillet and "blue" Eye Fillet with some sides, chips and salad.
They know how to prepared and cooked our steaks to our liking, Blue THICK Eye Fillet and I think they just put too much seasoning on my "thin" Scotch Fillet, perfectly Medium grilled, just wish it was a thicker cut.
Great selection of wines, this time Yarra Valley 2010 Hillcrest Cab Sauv Premium went well with our steak, love the big bubble glass, not too many places still thinks about that - LOL
Service always great, if you go for dinner, make sure you book a table and watch out for the young lady waitress, she dress well but can be a bit unpleasant.
Sorry Mum, forgot the salad, but I did have some potatoes and red grapes.

“Well worth the visit”

Great steak, very attentive service. You don't come here for the salad! I ordered the Waygu medium. Beer is cold, extensive wine list.
