“Don't stay there”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2010

Stayed with friends for 2 days not a bad place it was o.k, but i got a call after a few hours i had left saying we had burn't the laminex on the bedside table and it would roughly cost $300 to fix but he would charge me $100, after sending a friend to see the damage the next day it was the size of a 20cent piece ( not even sure we did the damage) , we used a blanket on the grass and was told they had to get it cleaned ( that told us that they don't wash after people use the room). Please check the room with them before checkout it could be a very expensive stay like ours. Would not recomend or stay there again.

Dear O' Dear....the things we sometimes have to respond to. This booking was two 18 year old boys. They were nice boys, that's why we took them. Most hotels here would not have but they were polite and well behaved while here.

They had two girls end up staying in the room with them and paid the additional charge, but I defy anyone who thinks that damage caused to a property does not have to be paid for. The burn mark to the bed head was small but still needed repair, regardless of whether it was inflicted intentionally.

A spare blanket is for use by guests if they require it WITHIN the room....not to be used as a picnic blanket.

As a footnote these reviews are valuable tool for guests and operator's alike but can cause untold damage to the reputation of properties if they are used as an act of revenge. I would ask that people read between the lines here.

For about the last 6 years I have been travelling to Cowes for Melbourne Cup weekend. We usually stay 5 or so nights and because we book so far ahead we could stay anywhere but we always stay at the Seahorse. The Seahorse is really nicely in context with the lovely town that Cowes is. The comfortable rooms are serviced every day and left spotless. It has a huge barbeque area and you can book a room with or without a kitchen if you want to self cater. Otherwise it's a couple of mins walk to the beachfront restaurants / cafes / Pub and when you return, it is completely quiet when you want to retire. The owners, Brendan and Olga are terrific and know every inch of the town and can match you up to the kind of food and service you want. Would I recommend it to a friend - Yes. In fact I have, we now book 4 or 5 rooms each year. It is just really good value for money, unpretentious and in a great location.

Dont bother staying here. It lacked character and comfort and the hotel owners were not friendly and approachable and almost made you feel awkward for staying. Very, Very basic room for the amount of money. Anything additional such as internet use was very expensive and you had to pay for the hire of a DVD player ($10)..we didnt bother.

We are always friendly and approachable to all our guests, even the unfriendly & unapproachable ones. The internet use is $3.00 & is there for guest convenience and is certainly not compulsory. DVD hire is $10, however we have 3 extra movie channels via Austar which are available 24 hours a day and are free.

Stayed with my boyfriend for one night on the 9th of May, when we arrived the male owner was very friendly and helpful with attractions etc, check-in however was L-O-N-G and he kept telling his kid to get off the computer.

Anyway, we got to our room and it was FREEZING inside, so we turned on the heat and closed all the open windows, it was only 12deg outside and inside was colder. And we went out for a while to look around. When we came back they had obviously been in our room because the heat was off and the windows were again open! We thought that this was innapropriate and I wasn't very happy.

That night we had a terrible loud noise coming from outside the bathroom, I think it had something to do with the air con/ heater but it was so loud we didn't sleep too well.

Overall, I wouldn't stay again, the room was super clean and had what we needed for the night. But there are heaps of other places on Phillip Island in the same price range and i'm sure they don't come into your room uninvited.

Also take A LOT of money, everything is so expensive at Phillip Island.

A touch disappointing. On one hand I was helpful at check in with attractions etc but this process was too L-O-N-G.......should I be less helpful?? I was telling my children to get off the computer because we allowed the guest to check in very early...around 11am which is about the only time my children get to use the computer. As for going into the room to turn off the heater...this is true and we make no apologies for it. The guest went to their room for a few minutes to turn on the heater and then left for the day....literally for the day (6 or 7 hours). The room takes 3 minutes to heat up and for the record it is the atmosphere we think of here...the planet that our children inherit is at stake...not the power bill!

There were three of of traveling together and found the Seahorse Motel to be a great value. It was spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and plenty of room to spread out. We booked on Wotif.com for one night, but once we arrived we fell in love with Phillip Island decided to stay an extra night. The discount rate was extended to us for the second night. We had a kitchen unit which was nice. I would (and hopefully will) stay her again

We stayed in this motel for one night. We were the last guests to arrive for the night and found the reception closed. Visitors to Victoria should be aware of the fact that everything (including hotel receptions and restaurants) closes extremely rarely, with 9 pm being the norm. Once we have checked it, we enjoyed the motel. Our room was clean and comfortable. The owner was very friendly and offered us advice on which place 'might be still open'.
