We chose Glen Isla for our stay on Philip Island because of the nice pictures in the net and the B&B fully lived up to it. We arrived in the beautiful garden and were greeted by the host who showed us our room (incl. free port which was refilled for the second night) and gave us inside information about restaurants nearby and managed to organise a table in a very nice one. Also she gave us directions to the beach. She was also very helpful in fetching us some wine and cheese later on.

It turned out that they have a pretty nice dog at the hotel (Nancy) and that one of the trees in the garden was a resting place of about 20-30 lorikeets. They can get noisy during daytime but at night they are sleeping.

The room was big, well furnished, all needed amenities were to be found in the spacious bathroom. We chose the green room so if you do not like green this is not for you. The B&B was quiet and peacefuld and it was a good place to sit on the porch and enjoy the birds in the garden.
All in all Cowes is a good place to stay to see the penguin parade and the Koala sanctuary so I can fully recommend this hotel most of all for the friendliness of our hosts. Then why only 4 points. One half point gets deducted for the location it is a bit too much outside Cowes so walking to the City Center is not fully an option and the selfacclaimed gourmet breakfast was just about what we got in every other B&B the differences were marginal.
One point if you are in Cowes: Everything closes pretty early so going to the penguin parade and having dinner afterwards is not really possible, so either you do it before, at the penguin parade or there is a filling station on the road between Glen Isla and the penguins that has a decent food and beverage assortment.

We stayed here for one night in Feb (during the heatwave and sadly, the resulting bushfires). Our room (the Green Room) was very tastefully decorated, clean, comfortable and cool (great aircon). Faultless frankly. Service was attentive and genuine. Lovely small touches, like port in the room, complementary water and a truly magnificent breakfast. Will certainly go back, and will almost certainly stay in the little cottage which looks fantastic. Really impressive, positive experience.

As soon as you turn in off the main road into Glen Isla you realise you have entered a hidden gem that transports you into another world. The gardens, accomodation, food, wine and hospitality is all perfect here.

After been welcomed by Madeleine and Ian you know you are in the perfect spot to stay on Philip Island. Full of help and tips to maximise your time on the Island, you know they are they to make your stay as memorable as possible. They are so close to everything also, only 10 mins to the Penguin Parade.

Our room was just so wonderful and as for the breakfast - well it is as good as the other reviews said it was.

Our only regret here is we did not stay longer! Stay more than a couple of days if you can. You can relax in the garden, enjoy the island and if you like wine, Ian has a brilliant selection to keep you busy in his cellar.

We will definately go back and next time stay longer. It just stands out away from all the others and you only realise this once you turn into the driveway and know you are about to experience something more than just a guest house. We generally stay in top hotels wherever we go and have to say the quality of Glen Isla is just perfect - it has it all to relax and feel special.

Thanks Madeleine and Ian for making our stay so memorable and hope to come back again soon. Just dont get too popular as I want your prices to stay as low as they are for next time we come!

We stayed at the Glen Isla for one night in Jan, but we wished we'd stayed longer. We went to Phillip Island on a mission to see the penguins, probably in common with all the other visitors to the Island!

I had researched on this site and booked Glen Isla on the back of the recommendations. Personally I didn't think their web site was the best or easiest to navigate - but don't let that put you off. They were very prompt at replying to emails and confirming the reservation.

The place was lovely, a little oasis in the touristy Phillip Island, although we missed the sign on the road as it's a bit discreet, either that or we're getting old and our eye-sight's gone to pieces!!

Ian (the host) gave us a warm welcome and a thorough introduction to the Island and his top tips - including restaurants. He was warm and casual but also made it really personal, tailored to what we wanted to do and he genuinely made us feel really welcome.

Our room was really nice - the gold room. Fantastic bedding and pillows with french type windows opening up to the gardens. No bath, just shower but that was fine for one night.

The beach was a couple of minutes walk away through the garden and fairly quiet. It was a beautiful beach and a nice stroll after the drive from Melbourne.

The following morning (after all the excitement of the penguins!) we had an amazing breakfast. I don't know how they made those mushrooms, but they were the best we'd tasted. We couldn't even face lunch that day....

I've never posted this on a review as it sounds naff, but Ian and Madeleine are two people made to do this kind of thing.

We would stay there again without a shadow of a doubt and I would recommend Glen Isla to family and friends.

Penguins:
Just a quick side note as this was the reason for our visit - after looking on this site managed to book the ultimate penguin tour, which was amazing - about ten of us on a private beach with night vision bino's and a ranger giving us an update through our headsets. The alternative was the penguin 'show' which you shared with 2,000+ other people so this was really spectacular. No kids though, which is a positive or negative depending how you look at it!!!

Glen Isla House is run by the owners Ian & Madeleine. It is a purpose built B&B with six main rooms and a couple of additional rooms converted from existing buildings. All surrounded by large gardens. The rooms have been decorated in different styles to give them an individual character. I particularly liked the large, American style, walk in closet where you could hide your luggage, much better than tripping over it in the room.

Ian is the Chef (not cook!) and his breakfasts were the best we had in five weeks touring Australia.

Most impressive was the hospitality shown by Ian, Madeline and staff: not intrusive, but friendly and helpful when needed.

It was a great place to ‘chill’. We took a day off from sight seeing and sat outside our room, in the gardens, with a glass (well, bottle) of wine enjoying the peace.

We booked the Anderson Room for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners where friendly and very hospitable. If you really want to spoil yourself and enjoy a tranquil environment, 2 min walk to the beach or 1 min drive into Cowes there is no other place on Phillip Island you would want to stay. Ian (host) has wealth of local island knowledge, what to see/do and where to eat. He also makes a exquisite breakfast that simply sets up your day!

We could not have been made more welcome by the owners. The accommodation is superb with themed rooms set in private grounds. The beach is meters away. Our two stays so far have been wonderful and my wife and I will certainly be visiting Glen Isla again.
