Folks you have to remember that this is a seasonal place on a fairly small island. Yes it is a little pricey, but how else do they compensate for virtually no custom during the week. As a local we go regularly, and the owners, particularly Kathy, are always warm and friendly.
If you want a Melbourne fancy feed, stay in Melbourne, this is the country. Menu may be limited but quality is generally very good.

When you're ready for some pleasant relief from the main strip chaos and holiday crowds & in need of some real home cooked nourishment, head to the Silverleaves General Store. Tucked away amongst the tea-tree and gum leaves in Silverleaves, great hearty breakfasts & a lunch favourite for our family. One of our favorite spots on the Island whenever we visit - so hard to get a great coffee anywhere on the Island but you'll definitely score here! Knowledgeable on all matters dietary - Coeliacs well catered for! Be patient for your meals but what's the rush when you're on holiday!

Its cute, its popular but its overpriced. The coffee is OK not fantastic and the food is nice but very over priced ! $7.50 for a custard tart that was tiny.... come on ! I know Silverleaves is supposed to be the 'Toorak' of Phillip Island, I think the owners at the store think they are in Chapel St !

We were looking forward to our visit here but unfortunately we'll never know what the food is like. After a 45 minute wait and 3 separate requests to check where our order was at (we had to keep asking as no-one came back), it was clear our order had been missed. At that point we were told that what we had ordered was now sold out. Surely our hungry kids would be happy with something else? The staff refunded our money and we left instead. How cafe's like these can pass themselves off as gourmet I will never know.

Having a place in Silverleaves for the last 20 years I have seen the Silverleaves store grow from a humble corner shop to what it had now. We have also visited it on many occasions for coffee and snacks and sometimes meals.
Today we had the worst breakfast I can ever remember having ANYWHERE. I had the omlette with smoked salmon on a bed of spinach. My wife had eggs with hollandaise sauce and spinach. To start with both serves of spinach were wet, soggy and not properly washed. We both crunched through sand and dirt. It also had absolutely no flavour what so ever. The grass breath our table would have been tastier. Because the spinach was ago soggy it made everything else on the plate wet and soggy also. Didn't matter much as ever omlette was bland and the hollandaise sauce was runny like water. I am 99% sure it was a generic no name brand rather than freshly made. How anyone can charge $18 and $16 respectively for this rubbish is a travesty. I can understand prices in quaint niche cafes (with no competition around) but quality of the food must reflect it.
On a slightly positive note the coffee was still good (obviouy not made but the person who cooks) and the fruit toast and banana bread with yoghourt and fruit eas also good but I guess it is hard to ruin something already prepared (and slap some butter and yoghourt on it).
So, if you want coffee and snacks that definitely try the Silverleaves store, but if you want edible food then go into Cowes.
