As a regular customer, I was interested to see what the new owners brought to the café.
Well. We were kept entertained by the complaints of those who had arrived before us, and at least one party left. After a mere 45 minute wait, our breakfast finally arrived. Most of it, anyway - some of the pre-paid order had been overlooked.
The egs were rubbery and overcooked, the tomatoes still cold in the middle and a green foreign item found in the spinach was passed around the table as a curiosity and identified as possibly a fertiliser granule. The (assumed) proprietor was apparently unaware that a chai teabag dunked in hot milk would not infuse (nor did it).
At least the spider that I observed descending from the ceiling landed on someone else's milk jug.
Perhaps they were having a bad day or they were short-staffed, but the unruffled and unapologetic nature of the staff made me suspect that this was business as usual.
Mad Cowes on the Esplanade will be getting our business until we hear of another change in ownership, which I suspect will not be long in coming.
