I walk the dog almost daily, unless of course the lake has flooded! Great scenic, safe, peaceful walk to do

“Easy walk around the lake”
Reviewed April 4, 2012

Take the time out to feed the ducks with the kids. The lake was being drained but only for a few weeks

“Great 4.2 kilometre meander”
Reviewed November 2, 2008

This 4.2km long walk around the picturesque Lake Benalla (and partly along a small section of the Broken River that feeds into the lake) is among the more pleasant walks in any Australian town.

Although I was never far from civilisation when walking this circuit, the southern end in particular is pleasant with many eucalypt (gum) trees offering an opportunity to see flora and birds.

At this end I also walked on a small bridge over a billabong (Australian word for a deviation of a watercourse, which may end in a pool or similar).

The Benalla Gallery's cafe offers the chance to stop off for a refreshing drink: it has a great deck next to the lake.
