We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Apollo Bay at the Guesthouse. From the time of booking, we found Maree extremely helpful. She immediately emailed us menus from various local restaurants and was happy to make reservations for us. The B & B entirely lived up to the beautiful photos on their website and you get the feeling you have entered a grand country house in Europe with lovely antiques and panelling. We made good use of the amply supplied tea and coffee set-up in the breakfast room and enjoyed the fresh shortbread. The view out to the parterre garden is beautiful. With a good supply of papers, books and magazines, we were in our element. In the evenings, it was lovely to sit and read / watch TV in front of the open fire. The view of the seafront as you open the curtains in the morning is sublime. We enjoyed spotting a seal colony through the provided binoculars and there is heaps of bird life also. Sitting out on the deck was just sooo relaxing! Maree and Vin seem to have found the right balance for being engaged with their visitors without being overbearing.

As for the area... Not only is it a great halfway point for those travelling the Great Ocean Road but there is plenty to do in and around the area. On the recommendation of friends, we discovered an amazing Redwood forest on one of our drives. The koalas at Cape Otway are also well worth the trip.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rose coloured room in the main house, which was lovely, and exactly matched the pho...

Just after Christmas my parents, a friend, and myself stayed at the beautiful Apollo Bay Guest House. The rooms are decorated in an ornate French style which was wonderful treat, when would you ever expect to stay at a place that feels as lush as Versailles? (The most common comment on our photos on instagram/fb were “wow” and “where is this place?”) While the rooms are fancy, their back deck and its views of the river and ocean felt as relaxed as my cottage in Canada. We felt fortunate to have two nights there. Our host Maree was warm and helpful- particularly in helping me find a doctor with an x-ray machine as I had been in a cycling accident and the hospital was closed do to a flood. It is an easy and nice walk down the beach into town, or a 2min drive. I highly recommend a stay here, it is a complete treat!

We wanted a romantic weekend away before we moved and our builders started renovating and since our first date nearly two years was a drive to the Great Ocean Road, it seemed fitting to make a weekend of it along this scenic route.
Like everyone else, we read the reviews and liked what we saw. The guest house is located next to an inlet leading to Apollo Bay beach and is discreetly tucked away on the Great Ocean Road but only 5 minutes to walk into town for meals and shopping.
The guesthouse is run by the Francophile Marlee who has painstakingly decorated it in an ornate French style. Oak(?) panelling, carved cornices, tapestries, plump chairs and a fantastic array of home & garden type magazines in the main lounge add to the atmosphere after you enter via a parterre garden with fountain. There are two guest ensuite bedrooms in the main houses, featuring red or blue toile de jouy prints on classic sleigh beds with an armoire and a classic marble bathroom (and a self-contained studio opposite). You open your French (naturally) doors onto the verandah, which is lovely with a glass of wine before dinner or with a tea you can make in the sunny breakfast room.
We used it as a wonderful base to explore the pretty rainforest of Mait's Rest (15 mins away), and the Cape Otway lighthouse on the Sunday. We had a very lazy start after a leisurely Saturday dinner at the La BImba restaurant which, while slow, does a perfect meal. We then had fun having drinks with the locals at the pub with some very charming 20-year-olds happy to share our table with us and marvel that we couldn't possibly be that old. We left it too late to go to the movies at the vintage cinema only steps from our guesthouse but I was impressed it was playing the latest releases.
Anyway, the romance factor lasted right to the end because my partner proposed to me on the verandah capping off a gorgeous weekend.
Don't stay anywhere else!

My family and I stayed at this Bed and Breakfast (this is not a hotel !!) in December 2012. The views are excellent and all is very cozy and romantic. However when you are more used to 4-5 Star Hotels with great beds and new interior , then its not for you.

The rooms are nicely decorated with antiques . But the beds and everything make noises. As I said... all antiques. Its cozy but really not everybodies style. You get the feeling of : wow here i better dont touch anything because the owner will see it the next morning.
This brings me to the next thing: There is no privacy really - i guess there is in no BB where the owners sleep upstairs.

Overall this way of staying is really up to you. If you prefer cozy and with contacts to owners and little privacy - this is your place, If you like modern , spacious 5 Star ... then better look somewhere else,

Bed & Breakfast accommodation should not be compared to a five star hotel as it would be inappropriate to do so.

B&B’s tend to be more exclusive with fewer guests. They don’t often cater to families and are more popular among couples and the experience tends to be much more unique than an average hotel stay.

Professional Assoc. of Innkeepers Intl report that 79% of owners live on premises therefore the guests receive personal attention, and hence most of their requirements are specifically catered for and satisfied.

Beautifully situated and friendly b & b with a very helpful hostess. The place is completely decorated in this French colonial style which is somewhat incongrous to say the least. Not really my cup of tea, but it's very comfortable, clean, spacious and very well-appointed.

This is a charming guesthouse with the most beautiful view across the estuary of a small river and out to sea. The whole place is decorated in a French style with plenty of oak panelling, doors and furniture imported from France. This was a treat. The rooms were comfortable and quiet and the guesthouse was close enough to the small town centre of Apollo Bay to take a casual evening stroll to find a restaurant of which there is a reasonable selection. Breakfast was continental but there was a cooked option at an additional cost. There was a free WiFi connection which is something lacking in many larger hotels.
