If you are on a very tight budget, then stay here, if you can afford an additional $20-$30 a night...then go else where. Relatively speaking it wasn't cheap, $150 a night is not cheap, but being peak season and in a very beautiful place...that'e the cheapest hotel we could find. We were there during the heat wave in January...NO AIR CONDITIONING in room, only a pissy fan. There was air con in the hallway...we thought about dragging the mattresses in the hallway to sleep. We were tavelling with two kids (sharing a double bed)... let's just say it was a long uncomfortable night in the heat.

Other than that, very basic rooms, was relatively clean. Beds were clean, toilet was clean.

Stayed at the Iluka for one night for our trip down the Great Ocean Road.

The room was very basic, but fine. The bed was extremely hard which left me with a fairly sore back ... But what can you do.

Only other issue is the rooms won't very well insulated for sound either, could hear things going on in the hallway all night.

But hey, if you are looking for adorable, basic accommodation for just one night, this place is fine.

This motel was the very worst one we stayed at during our five week tour
of Australia, We had booked in for two nights but only stayed the one, there was a fight going on outside our bedroom door glass being smashed and lots of shouting
We could not get in touch with anyone as there no phones in the room and we did not consider it wise to go out, After about two hours of this it went quite, only to start again at six o clock in the morning with people banging on doors. We explained all this to the lady on reception in the morning and asked for a refund as we would be leaving she went off to see the manager then came back and said no refunds given, I asked to speak with the manager and was told he was not available, when I said this was not good enough she went to see him again when she came back she offered me fifty dollars and said it was the best they could , this I took but was not happy about it and she herself said she knew there would be trouble as she had seen the people drunk and having an argument outside

Room Tip: do not go there

We stayed at many hotels on our 3 weeks trip in AU. One of them was ILUKA in Apollo Bay. Don’t have anything positive to say. We pree payed and when we got there they wanted 200 dollars more than agreed. Then they wanted to pree charge for damage on the room before they gave us the key. It was not possible to find another hotel. We had booked two days. We are a married Swedish couple and 60+ years, damage???
The proprietors daughter unpleasant, maybe because the money discussion.
The room was dirty. During the two days nobody did the bed or cleaned the room, we had to empty the wastebasket ourself, twice. Water boiler in the room but no coffee powder. Had to ask for it every time. No glasses in the room. The room was above the restaurant with a lot of smell like the oil you deep-fry in. Noisy. When we left we wanted them to check the room for damage so we could get our money back. Nobody wanted to do it and it took three weeks before the money where back in our bank account.
If you have a choice find another hotel over the coming holidays.

Room Tip: Not worth the price in any way

My husband & I stayed for one night as we were traveling The Great Ocean Rd. it was cheap, clean & had free wifi! The staff were lovely & helpful too. The only complaint I had was there was only one double PowerPoint in the whole room which was a pain in the behind as we wanted to charge both phones & the laptop as well was watch the tv & plug the heater in. The girls were so sweet & found a power board for me but I would recommend taking one or at least a double adapter. We didn't eat there as we were on the road again early but there was a takeaway & restaurant too which is super convenient too!

My partner and I wanted to spend a day in the Otways and decided to stay overnight in Apollo Bay rather than drive all the way back to Geelong.
We wanted something low price as we didn't think it was justified to spend over $100 on a hotel when we only live a few hours up the road!
I found the Iluka on a last minute hotel website about a week before we went, with double rooms advertised at $80 per night. The photos looked neat and tidy so we took a punt on it.
We were very pleasantly surprised! The Iluka had everything you could want for a short stay hotel. The building itself is quite old, with stairs only (no lifts) up to the hotel rooms on the 2nd floor of the building (the bottom floor is a cafe and an Italian restaurant both run by the same people) but our room was great. The bathroom was very clean and fairly modern, a flat screen TV, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities were provided in the room, and the double bed was comfortable. There was a plug in bar heater only, but even on the cold autumn day we stayed we didn't need it. Note there is no air con in the building.
There's free parking out the back of the hotel, and everyone we dealt with was friendly and welcoming. It's located right in the centre of the main street at the sea front so is a very short walk to every cafe/restaurant/pub in town.
For $80 a night we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Illuka Motel as there was no other availability for the night, as we were competing in the Great Ocean Road Marathon. We payed a premium price which you would expect for the this weekend which was fine although the rooms are very poor.

The motel is atop the Illuka fast food/restaurant/bar which is pretty pricey, but then again much of the food in Apollo Bay is.

The rooms are very dated, with mould on the walls in the shower. The walls between the rooms are paper thin, and you can hear everything going on in the rooms down the hall. The double bed was very small and TV reception is terrible. The room overlooked the restaurant kitchen roof and rear carpark. Wi-Fi is free.

The staff are very friendly and attentive.

If there are other accommodation options available to you in Apollo Bay, I would look into those prior to booking here unless the price or circumstances are right.
