It was in a good location, love Apollo Bay. Considering we paid luxury prices, it wasn't really luxury accommodation. However, I think it would be great for a family staying for a week or so.
The pot belly stove was nice on a cold night..

Penthouse is NOT an accurate description ! Just the rooms above reception. While the lounge, dining and kitchen were acceptable, apart from the strange placement of the fold down ironing board on the lounge wall, the rest of this "suite" was below par. The two bedrooms were seperated by as cavernous stairwell which they described as a "fire escape" an extremely steep staircase which descended to the rear of reception, and which was not sound proofed which meant that we could clearly hear conversations from below. The bathroom was old and tired with broken missing and discoloured floor grout, mouldy discoloured venetian blind resting on edge of spa, mould visible on shower door, water damaged cabinet adjacent to hand basin, wobbly towel rails and ancient thin tired towels provided ...far from impressive.

Decided to have a night away along The Great Ocean Road and stops in Apollo Bay. Located Rayville Boat Houses through wotif.com and a discounted price on their Luxury Penthouse. From their site it looked cosy and just what we were after.

On arrival we were greeted by Ross. Very nice guy with a kiwi accent. Made us feel welcomed straight away. The penthouse was a lovely setting, open planned kitchen, dining, lounge area finished well. Great large comfy couches, split system that warms the place wonderfully on a cool rainy day. Two bedrooms both fitted with very comfortable QS beds. Nice decor. Large shower and delux two person spa in the bathroom. Set up as a fully self contained apartment. Close to the main township and shops. There are two supermarkets in town, Foodworks being the large and cheaper option than IGA if you're after supplies.

Their is a distant ocean view from the bathroom when seated in the spa, however if you're planning a romantic get away in the spa, you won have privacy from surrounding apartments if the blinds are open. Lacked on the little attention to details for a " Luxury Penthouse Apartment", and for the price I would have liked to have seen perhaps a complimentary bottle of wine and nibbles and bath salts, aroma candles etc to set offa romantic stay. Little things that would make a BIG difference and memorable experience. Saying that when asked at reception, candles, matches and spa salts were supplied.

A consideration if booking to those who have trouble with stairs, then the only way to the apartment is up a tall flight of stairs from the front. So for elderly, bad knees, or other ailments then for consideration before booking.

For places to see and activities, they provided great advice and content. Overall for a night away it was a very nice place to stay, if those few little details were added it would have heightened the experience overall to a 5/5, so on this point I rate our stay a 4/5 and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Luxury Penthouse Apartment - two bedroom. Fits 2 couples well. There is a note on their site preference to no children under 12 in this apartment. So famlies be aware for consideration or consultation prior to booking. Overall the apartment was warm, spacious and inviting.

Stayed three nights in a two bedroom deluxe villa and enjoyed every minute of it.
The log fire made all the difference to the cosiness of the sitting room. Take a good bottle of wine, a few candles and some relaxing cd's and you have the perfect setting.
The kitchen was well appointed, and the bedrooms clean and comfortable.
Only complaint was that the water pressure in the shower was a bit a slow but that didn't bother us.
The managers are pleasant and lit our fire on our arrival. Lots of heating is available with a split system upstairs and a heater also in the dining room. All bes have electric blankets so warmth is not an issue.
Would definitely stay here again but the chances of us returning from Queensland minimul.

Room Tip: All villas are in a quiet location

We stayed at Rayville in a Loft Villa in Winter to get to know this part of Victoria for a week and really loved it. The place is absolutely beautiful (it seems our villa was freshly rennovated). The Beach Villas are great with the wood fires in winter, we nearly didn't want to leave the villa. However, walking to the restaurants and the beaches was good and for us it was the ideal place to start our venture from, as Apollo Bay has everything (supermarkets, restaurants, ..) you need and all the attractions (12 Apostles, Rainforest, etc. ) are very close.
