The hotel is hidden in the road behind the sea front on the Great Ocean Road. A very comfortable place to stay. On arrival we were very quickly booked in and Helen ( I think that is her name) gave us lots of good advice on what to see and where to go. Our room was very comfortable and well equipped. Don't miss out on the breakfast, you will not need to eat all day if you have the "Full Monty"! There is Free WiFi available in the dining room and an on site guest laundry room, vital when touring for a few weeks. Dont miss out on the wonderful little Staffie pup that hides outside the dining room!

Stayed 2 nights in the newer "Romance Room" at the top of the stairs on upper level. Room is very spacious, clean and comfortable bed. Older establishment but recently refurbished with modern decor. Unusual bathroom arrangement with bath in the main area adjacent to the bed. Separate shower and twin basin area.
Stair to upper level are a bit steep and narrow.
Very friendly staff and great Continental Breakfast. (available only between 8.00 and 9.00am)
For dinner, try the Apollo Bay Hotel located in the main street.

Room Tip: Try for a upper level room facing the south for glimpses of the ocean. - We had the South East room.

We stayed in the Top Deck which has three double bedrooms, the apartment itself also had a large lounge area and a large outside balcony space, great for small groups. We arrived late in the evening so there was no one on the reception but they had left all the details we would need for our stay which was very helpful. All rooms where very clean with nice comfy beds, continental breakfast was included in the room rate which was a great bonus.
The location of the property was right in the centre of Apollo Bay, just 5 mins walk to local restaurants and bars with the beach just across the road.
Would definitely recommend :)

My husband and I had the pleasure of spending one night here recently, and were both sorry we could not stay longer. Warm welcome from Helen and room ready on time.

We booked the Cottage, which is a bit more private as its separate from the other rooms slightly.Comfortable king sized bed with good linen, excellent Sheridan towels and nice toiletries. Immaculately clean and finished to a high standard (nice bathroom, fixtures etc). Fabulous big bathtub in the room large enough for two, and well positioned so I was able to enjoy a glass of wine while watching a movie. Mini bar selection was limited but we were happy to see that prices were reasonable which is a nice change.

Captain's is brilliantly located one street back from the main strip of Apollo Bay, so it was an easy walk to the beach and dinner etc. There is a Foodworks directly across the road for supplies.

We were lucky to secure a great Wotif rate of $140 which included continental breaky and wine on arrival, however I would have to be honest and say I don't think I would be comfortable paying the asking rate of $295 when booking directly. I think it's a bit high.

All in all a fabulous little gem in Apollo Bay. We will definately be back in the future. Can definately recommend this place to couples and those wanting a quiet getaway.

Room Tip: We had the Cottage which had a King sized bed and was quite roomy. I believe the Bridge rooms are ne...

Brilliant location, just a stone's throw from the beach. Quality fixtures and fittings in the bathroom, groovy 'Open/Walk in' shower, great when coming back from the beach and Victorian style free standing bath to relax in. Main bedroom/sitting area excellent size, bed very comfortable and little fridge/kettle useful when you want a cup of tea or a beer. Only downside, was the early morning wake up call of the rubbish collectors but as breakfast started at 8am and no doubt you just wanted to get down to the beach anyway, it started your day earlier. Continental breakfast was excellent but I would skip the 'cooked' not much flavour in the bacon, they need to spend more money on quality meat to make it worth eating and breakfast should be extended to at least 9.30am as we are on holiday after all, finishing at 9am is too early.

We stayed at Captain's on the Bay over the long weekend, occupying the wonderful 2 - bedroom Loft, a maritime themed cottage with a living room and deck downstairs (no kitchen, but a small fridge), and two beautiful Queen rooms upstairs in the eaves of the building. We were checked in by the lovely and super-affable Helen, who had plentiful advice for explorations of the area. Whilst the Loft is more expensive than some of the alternatives in Apollo Bay, we certainly felt that it was worthwhile, particularly for 4 paying adults. Moreover, breakfast was generous and of high quality, with gluten free options and a good range of choice for an included meal. A rack of DVDs is on hand for those who don't wish to avail themselves of the town's facilities, but for those that do, the town centre is all of three minutes walk away. Situated right next to a supermarket, there's also plenty of refreshments within easy reach. Oh, the beds are incredibly comfortable; we slept better here than we do at home. Lovely!

Thank you, Helen, for making our stay so comfortable!

Room Tip: If your budget can extend to it, the Loft is a really lovely suite slightly apart from all the rest.
