A good old fashioned breakfast was all I wanted and I found it at this cafe. Hint .... go before the rush in the morning as the service is better and it's more relaxed as this is a popular place to eat. Well done to the staff service

Me and my friends stumbled upon this cafe while on our drive along the great ocean road. It looks pretty simple and ordinary from the outside, but the food they offered was one of the best during my Australia trip!

Waiting time was a little long and there was no wifi available, but the seafood was definitely worth the wait. Get the seafood chowder or mussels if they are available!

After visiting Cafe 153 several times in the past, we had no initial hesitation to start our day there with what we thought was going to be an awesome breakfast. This morning however, it was not the case. We were ignored when we arrived, ignored when we tried to order and ignored when we left. Meals have definitely gone downhill, which is a shame. Bacon was dripping with grease and mostly inedible, tomatoes were cold and tasted nothing like a roasted tomato should, sausage had the shrivelled 'cooked then reheated' look and tasted very bland, poached eggs were overcooked and hashbrowns were clearly out of a packet purchased at the local supermarket. I remember about 3 years ago, they used to serve potato rostis instead, which goes to show how much they used to care about food; despite their current claim of being "foodies" - as indicated on their menu. The coffee was awful. If you know your coffee, don't expect a freshly-roasted bean brew here. What we got was stale and bitter, with a hint of dishwater. Not joking. Above all, what sticks the most is arguably the worst service we have ever encountered in hospitality. It's not hard to say hello, smile and be polite. If you're not up for even pretending to be interested in the #1 most important aspect of hospitality which is welcoming customer service, then perhaps you're in the wrong game (I'm looking at you, tattooed waitress). What a disappointment. Farewell Cafe 153, we won't be back.

Cafe 153 is tucked in amongst all the other eateries along the esplanade in Apollo Bay and offers the usual breakfast and lunch menu for this type of place. The pricing is a little steep, though this might be normal for somewhere well out of the city. The coffee was only average and the service was quick and efficient without being terribly cheerful or welcoming.

The food was only average but the "mueslii slice with yoghurt topping" was held together with copha (like an old-fashioned white christmas) and pretty horrible. You'd expect something that sounded healthy - like a mueslii slice - to be a little nicer than that.

Nothing to really recommend the place but nothing "bad" about it, either.
